In line with our corporate priorities aimed at ensuring optimization of revenue collection and increased tax compliance on one hand and the need to effectively manage the numerous challenges and opportunities in the fast-changing business environment on the other, we are seeking highly motivated, result-oriented, well-qualified and experienced professionals to fill the following vacant positions:

47.0 EXAMINING OFFICER- GRADE ZRA06 (8 POSITIONS)

1. PURPOSE

Reporting directly to the Collector, the job holder will be responsible for collecting revenue through the examination of documents, analyse images of goods scanned by the None-Intrusive Scanning device in order to detect any inconsistencies between images and declarations. This includes the conducting of other examining, control and enforcement activities to ensure that correct declarations are made through the implementations of customs procedures and regulations as per Customs and Excise Act.

1. MAIN DUTIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Accounting for revenue receipts, reconciliation, banking and deposit account management;
• Compiling debt lists from all sections and prepares inspector’s adjustment entries;
• Examining entries for purposes of revenue collection;
• Determining physical inspections for valuation and classification purposes;
• Supervising scanner officers;
• Analysing scanned images;
• Controlling the scanner room;
• Liaising with the Scanner contractor on technical issues;
• Maintaining scan records;
• Producing monthly reports on cargo scan activities;
• Verifying import and export documentation;
• Ensuring control of imports and exports of prohibited and restricted goods in accordance with the provisions of the law;
• Confirming values and HS Codes to conform to the Customs nomenclature;
• Checking on eligibility for the goods presented for duty exemption;
• Compiling commodity and importer risk profiles; and
• Directing local market intelligence.

1. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Grade Twelve School Certificate/General Certificate of Education Equivalent;
• Degree in any field or equivalent professional qualifications;
• Minimum of two (2) years relevant post qualifying work experience in Customs and related fields; and
• Must have worked for a minimum of one year six months in their current grade.
