KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/SCOPE
The Agency Journalist’s primary accountabilities are:

Support CI Fundraising team through gathering field content that enables our organization to depict the realities of poverty in the areas where we work, as well as the challenges vulnerable children and youth face, increasing our ability to acquire, engage and keep sponsors and donors

As a communication expert, create versatile content and share stories of our children, youth and programs in a compelling way, reinforcing our brand messages and the benefits of our programs to supporters.

Interview, photograph and film children, families, communities, staff and volunteers, as well as local programs in action.
-
Stay actively involved in Agency activities and within the surrounding communities to identify, produce and provide in-depth interview content and visually arresting stories.
-
Support the needs of Internal Communications and Global Programs by supplying interview, photo and video content.
-
Work with Agency management to support any agency communications to key local audiences, if so requested.
-
Strictly observe confidentiality and strong ethics with respect to all beneficiaries, staff, volunteer information/data.
-
Comply with and ensure adherence to the agency’s policies, safety and security protocols and child safeguarding norms and guidelines by self as well all stakeholders both internal and external.

A.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a.
Content Development and Management
-
Write topics on a monthly basis to reflect different aspects of the sponsorship program and align story idea submissions with Children International’s mission and with any current initiatives or content plans.
-
Perform photography, videography and written storytelling duties as needed and maintain archives for this type of documentation.
-
Document success stories visually (photos and videos) and/or verbally (written storytelling) gathered from the field.
-
Work on written stories, visual materials (photos and videos), and communication projects requested by CIHQ, in full coordination and alignment with local Agency staff.
-
Oversee the preparation of any content/local communication materials (such as letters, certificates, presentations, cards, etc.) needed by the Agency Director to promote the work CI does locally.
-
Undertake semi-annual review to country related material on Local Agency Website/Intranet and provide recommendations and support on updates and changes.
-
Develop follow-up on stories as requested by CIHQ or by own initiative, when aligned with annual fundraising plans.
b.
Media and Event Management and Visitor Coverage
-
Participate in the communication of new community center projects with CIHQ and provide items listed in the Community Center Shot List.
-
Address questions from the media, Children International headquarters, sponsors or donors in an informed manner.
-
Help coordinate Children International Marketing and Engagement team visits to the Agency to secure a productive and informative experience for visitors.
-
Document (photo, video and text) sponsor visits, as requested by CIHQ Care Team via the local SR Department.
-
Document (photo, video and text) special donor visits, as requested by the Fundraising Team.
c.
Agency Brand Management
-
Apply sound judgment to determine when a story is relevant: support overall brand messaging and/or communicate the realities of poverty in an impactful way.
-
Be the first point contact for all approved brand collaterals by Children International like logo, signage etc. and ensuring that relevant communication policies of Children International are respected by the Agency per CI guidelines.
-
Ensure alignment to brand guidelines, approve locally designed branded materials (flyers, brochures, memorabilia, banners, building signs, etc.). Such materials should be designed by other staff members, freelancers or partners and reviewed by the Agency Journalist.
-
Conduct presentations on CI Branding/Corporate Image practices as needed.
-
Support opportunities to promote CI’s activities locally and beyond as needed; organize and coordinate local media support (press releases/conferences, etc.) for events such as grand openings, festivals and more.
-
Supervise the design of promotional materials to be distributed to donors, sponsors and media.
d.
Business Partnering/Stakeholder Engagement
-
Support the Agency Director with key organizational reporting as needed.
-
Collaborate with the Marketing and Engagement team (CIHQ) to fulfill ongoing and campaign-related content needs and submit content in support of fundraising efforts.
-
Collaborate with the Marketing and Engagement team and local Programs team (with support and supervision of Agency Director) to identify, produce and submit compelling local program and impact stories to CIHQ on an ongoing basis.

Support Global Philanthropy and Global Programs teams, as needed, with donation assistance and program reporting.
-
·Participate in Global Team meetings and training sessions to keep communication open and improve information sharing with CIHQ.

Be responsible for the care and upkeep of photo and video equipment.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND KEY SKILLS:
-
University degree in Journalism, audiovisual production, social communication, or relevant field, with a minimum of 3-5 years of work experience in a similar role.
-
Experience with and aptitude for digital photography and videography is a must.
-
Experience in visual and/or written journalism with exceptional interviewing skills.
-
Proven project management skills, organizational abilities and time management skills, ability to meet deadlines, multitask and prioritize workload.
-
Great storyteller with strong verbal and visual journalistic skills to tell stories with both head and heart.
-
Possess good interpersonal skills with the proven ability to deal tactfully and build effective relationships with people across levels, both internally and externally.
-
Excellent and fluent verbal and written communication in English for Asia and Africa / ideally bilingual (Spanish-English) for Latin America. Skills in the relevant local language are a plus.

Technologically savvy with good computer skills specifically MS Office as well as familiarity with inter/intranet, Google Drive, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.

In addition to the above, the following are highly desirable in the ideal candidate:

Having worked with international organizations or formal local non-profit organizations.

Passion for photography and videography, with skills that go beyond simple documentation to authentic representation of the real contexts where CI children live .

A deep connection to the local context of impoverished communities.
-
Photography and video editing software knowledge (such as Adobe Photoshop, Premier, Audition for PC).
Travel Requirement: Willingness to travel around 40% of time, depending on spread of community centers and communities.
