1. Introduction

Christian Blind Mission (CBM) is commissioning an architectural firm to develop the preliminary site plan, architectural drawings, floorplans, and soil examinations for a new Eye Care Unit at the University Teaching Hospitals – Eye Hospital.

The new unit will offer comprehensive ophthalmology services, with an integrated focus on pediatric eye care, ensuring a child-friendly and accessible environment that meets both medical and emotional needs of children. At the same time, the unit will be designed to serve the broader patient population, supporting general eye care services and future scalability.

2. Objectives

The main objectives are to:

Design a functional and efficient Eye Care Unit that caters to both pediatric and general ophthalmology services.

Emphasize a dedicated and inclusive pediatric eye care component, with child-friendly and family-centered design features.

Ensure compliance with local and international health, safety, and accessibility standards.

Incorporate sustainable and cost-effective architectural practices.

Design for flexibility and future expansion.

3. Scope of Work

The architectural firm will be responsible for:

• Conducting a thorough site and soil analysis
• Preparing preliminary architectural drawings, including:
  • Site Plan
  • Floor plans
  • Elevations
  • Sections
• Ensuring compliance with relevant building codes, accessibility and healthcare standards.
• Coordinating with other consultants such as structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineers.
• Incorporating feedback from hospital management, pediatric specialists, and CBM representatives.
• Providing detailed cost estimates and material specifications.
• Ensuring the design accommodates future expansion possibilities.

4. Deliverables

Initial Phase:

• Room program
• Site and soil analysis report
• Conceptual designs and preliminary sketches for review.
• Desing Plans (site plan, floor plans, elevations, sections)
• Detailed cost estimates

5. Timeline

The project timeline is expected to be as follows:

• Weeks 1-3: Initial site and soil analysis and stakeholder meetings.
• Weeks 4-6: Development of conceptual designs and cost estimates

6. Qualifications

The architectural firm should possess:

• Proven experience in designing healthcare facilities, preferably pediatric units.
• A strong portfolio demonstrating similar projects.
• Proficiency in architectural software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and 3D modelling tools.
• Familiarity with local building codes and international healthcare design standards.
• Excellent communication and project management skills.

7. Selection Criteria

Selection will be based on:

• Quality and innovation demonstrated in previous work.
• Understanding of the project requirements and proposed approach.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work within budget constraints.
