Job description:
Purpose
To supervise field-level waste deposition activities within a designated area during assigned shifts, ensuring compliance with safety, health, environmental, and quality standards. The role supports the execution of mine production plans through effective deployment of equipment and personnel, ensuring timely and efficient waste placement and area control.
Key Responsibilities

The incumbent will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.

Comply with and enforce all safety, environmental, quality, and company policies and procedures, including applicable statutory requirements.

Supervise assigned field crews and equipment (e.g., haul trucks, dozers, graders) to ensure effective and safe waste deposition.

Monitor and guide operators to optimize material placement and minimize truck cycle times.

Conduct and participate in toolbox talks and pre-shift safety briefings.

Ensure adherence to waste dump design parameters and environmental controls, including drainage and slope stability.

Perform routine field inspections to assess work progress, compliance, and safety.

Report equipment issues or breakdowns promptly and liaise with maintenance teams for corrective action.

Maintain accurate field records for material movement, equipment utilization, and any incidents or near misses.

Support the Shift Supervisor in achieving daily production targets and reporting.

Enforce high standards of discipline, safety awareness, and team cooperation among operators.

Assist in training new or junior operators as assigned.

Perform additional operational duties in line with priorities and instructions from supervisory staff.
Qualifications
-
Grade 12 Certificate
-
Diploma or Trade Certification in Mining, Mineral Science, or related field (or equivalent)

Valid Blasting License (added advantage)

First Aid Certificate
-
Valid Driver’s License
Experience
-
Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in open-pit mining operations,
-
At least 1 year in a team leadership or supervisory capacity in load and haul or waste deposition

Familiarity with waste dump construction, environmental compliance, and safe equipment operations

Basic understanding of mine planning and dispatch systems.

Demonstrated ability to manage teams and enforce safe work practices

Solid knowledge of mining operations, rules, and safety regulations

Proven track record in supervising and leading teams

Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced mining environment

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Proficiency in using PCs and relevant mining software systems

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Rotational shift work (including nights, weekends, and public holidays).

Exposure to dust, noise, heat, and physically demanding conditions.

Occasional standby and overtime work may be required.
