Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ)

Innovating the future of tech solutions in Zambia.

Job Description

Background:

The BC Lab is intended to test practical solutions to improving hygiene behaviors in high burden settings. Of the three primary work packages that have been  identified for the BC Lab, this position will primarily fall under the Practical Approaches to Changing Hygiene Behaviors work package. While there is robust evidence linking changes in key hygiene behaviors to health and development outcomes, the mechanics of supporting and promoting lasting changes in individual behavior remain uncertain. These practical questions about changing hygiene behaviors in situ limit global progress on hygiene behavior change. Multi-component handwashing interventions are important to address the range of behavioral determinants influencing HWWS behavior. However, there is limited information on the potential interactions between different components of handwashing interventions. The objective of Work Package 2 is to test the individual and combined effects of hand hygiene promotion and hardware provision on handwashing with soap behavior at critical handwashing junctures. This will be accomplished through a multi-arm factorial randomized-controlled trial where households will receive: (1) Hardware provision, (2) Hygiene Promotion, (3) Both, (4) No intervention.
