Job description:

Overall Job Purpose

The position exists to h andle the activities of the conveyor belt splicing section in order to provide plant and workshop support services to the Sentinel Mine site. This will involve maximizing the utilization of the resources to achieve cost savings, continuous improvement initiatives, and utilization of synergies throughout the area. This role will carry out the activities of the conveyor belt maintenance to ensure appropriate levels of safety and productivity are maintained in order to meet safety, cost and production targets.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

The specific tasks to be performed by the position holder will include;

• Instilling a culture of continuous improvement as opposed to maintaining status quo.
• To carry out online PMs (preventive maintenance) on conveyor belts and report to the supervisor.
• To carry out new conveyor belt installation and conveyor belt change out.
• To carry out plant shutdown jobs within designated area of responsibility.
• Continue improving in safety performance throughout the workforce.
• The position will be expected to positively impact and contribute to the performance of the company through individual activity.
• Hands and skills on plant maintenance works and the workshop jobs.
• To carry out cold splice and hot splice.
• To carry out cold and hot repairs on conveyor belt.

Experience required to perform in this job :

• Minimum of 2 – 5 years’ experience in a maintenance role covering belt splicing works.
• Experience in high output workshops with a high aptitude in splicing & rubber initiatives required of today’s mining industry.
• Able to recognize the cause of damage to the conveyor belt and pulley lagging works found on routine inspections and report correctly.
• Ability to measure the required counterweight slack as per splicing procedure.
• Ability to interpret various belt Splicing manuals and able to use modern splicing equipment.
• Ability to inspect and determine correct preparation of all substrates prior to splicing.
• Hands on skills and experience with large multi skill operations both conveyor belt splicing & rubber being undertaken simultaneously within tight time restrictions exposure would be an advantage.
• Demonstrable experience with fixed plant maintenance will be an advantage.

Qualifications :

• Minimum of grade 12 certificate.
• Any relevant certification with experience in rubber & belt splicing repairs in fixed plant & workshop relining environments.
