Job Description

Reports to Laboratory Supervisor – Pre Analytical. The incumbent will be responsible for collecting and processing samples for CIDRZ Central laboratory. She/He will collect biological samples from the clients and ensure that all samples collected are properly accounted for and are correctly packaged in readiness for shipping and testing in the Laboratory. The incumbent will also capture client details and examination requirements in the LIS and ensure proper storage of samples and disposal of both medical and general waste.

Main Duties:

  • Operate and manage specimen collection at the centre, with oversight from the Pre/Post Analytical Supervisor.  Ensure the Sample collection centre has a clean, professional and friendly atmosphere.
  • Work with the Pre/Post Analytical Supervisor to ensure the facility has all the phlebotomy and other sample collection consumables needed for proper operations.
  • Report to the Pre/Post Analytical Supervisor, any possible or present interruptions in service delivery to the clients.
  • Obtain the appropriate specimen as required for requested testing, and requisition forms from the clients and document accurately all patient information necessary for sample processing.
  • Ensure that all specimens collected are processed and maintained at an appropriate temperature for optimal specimen stability until delivery to the laboratory for testing.
  • Work with courier to co-ordinate sample transportation from collection site to testing Lab.
  • Preparation of waste for disposal and/or actual disposal for incineration of bio-hazardous material.
  • Handle study specific samples according to established protocols/procedures.
  • With assistance from Lab technical and Management team , answer lab related questions and follow up to resolution any issues or concerns from customers.
  • Perform testing of samples as assigned by the supervisor and perform other processes relevant to patient sample testing.
  • Provide excellent, friendly and attentive service to all lab customers.
  • Will be required to work 48 hours a week with flexible shifts.May be requested to work flexible shifts [Early morning or evening] between 08 to 21 hours.
  • Will be assigned any other duties or responsibilities deemed necessary by the organization to assist in the successful functioning of CIDRZ projects and activities.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum GCE O Level with merit in English, Science and Mathematics.
  • Degree /Diploma in Bio-Medical Sciences or Recognized equivalent
  • 1 year experience
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Time management skills and detail oriented.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Registered with  HPCZ and be In possession of a Valid Practicing License.
  • Good interpersonal and people skills
  • Good communication and customer care skills
  • Independent and team worker, must have planning skills as well as organizing skills.
