C4 EcoSolutions (C4) is a consulting company that designs and implements climate change adaptation and mitigation projects in the public and private sectors. Our purpose is to support vulnerable communities and ecosystems adapt to a changing climate, while catalysing large-scale investment in innovative mitigation initiatives. Since our establishment in 2006, C4 EcoSolutions has worked on over 220 climate change adaptation and mitigation projects in more than 105 countries across Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean — working with a variety of clients including UN Environment, UNDP, IFC, IFAD, GIZ, FAO, Conservation International, UNICEF, UNIDO, UNESCO, CARICOM DF, GWP and the governments of a wide range of developing countries.

C4 is currently seeking Carbon Project Consultant to join our dynamic team remotely in Lusaka, Zambia .

Our team work closely with a range of international entities, national governments, and local communities to co-develop innovative solutions to help the world’s most vulnerable groups adapt to the impacts of climate change. This work includes:

  • designing innovative adaptation projects for international climate funds, including the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Global Environmental Facility (GEF) and Adaptation Fund (AF);
  • conducting climate change vulnerability assessments;
  • conducting technical evaluations of climate change adaptation projects, including the development of mid-term and terminal reviews;
  • providing technical advisory services on climate change adaptation projects under implementation; and
  • providing technical assistance and capacity building to governmental and non-governmental institutions, particularly regarding access to climate finance.

Summary Description of the Role:

The Carbon Project Consultant will will play a key role in securing further funding for our carbon and climate mitigation projects by writing compelling project documents that are well-aligned with the priorities of the client. The consultant will lead multiple projects that reflect well-researched, innovative and collaborative solutions.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

Project Management

  • Leading and contributing to multiple projects at one time, ensuring the documents we submit are of high quality and meet the needs and priorities of our clients.
  • Collaborate closely with the project team, clients, and relevant stakeholders to develop a thorough understanding of the project objectives and expected outcomes.
  • Write and edit clear and compelling project narratives that detail the project’s goals, methodology, budget and outcomes.
  • Actively seek out and incorporate technical input from various relevant information sources, including desktop research, primary analysis and stakeholder engagements.
  • Analyse data collected by the team and national counterparts and use the information accurately and meaningfully in projects.
  • Provide clear and structured oversight and guidance to junior staff, reviewing their sections to ensure they are well written, conceptually and compositionally correct, error-free, and in accordance with the C4 style guide.
  • Submit project deliverables, to clients in a timely manner, ensuring that all required information and documents are included.
  • Respond promptly to questions and requests for additional information from clients, project partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage invoicing for project deliverables as per the contract, keeping the finance department updated on anticipated invoicing dates and any changes, along with reasons for such changes.
  • Ensure projects are completed within budget.
  • Ensure all administrative tasks are completed within timeframes and be a role model in terms of effective time management.

Client Relations/Stakeholder Management

  • Effectively engage with clients, project partners, and other stakeholders to provide information, address questions and resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, project partners, and other stakeholders to foster trust, understanding and collaboration.
  • Understand client needs, set clear expectations, and ensure delivery aligns with client requirements and standards.
  • Provide regular updates and progress reports to clients.

Sector Knowledge

  • Stay informed of the latest trends, best practices, and funding opportunities in the climate mitigation and carbon sector through regular reading of relevant publications, attending conferences and workshops, and building and maintaining a network of contacts.
  • Monitor and analyse the latest developments in the carbon and climate mitigation sector, including trends, funding mechanisms, best practices and innovations. Incorporate this information into project documents to enhance their competitiveness and relevance.
  • Share relevant information about trends and best practices within C4, stakeholders and other relevant parties.
  • Participate in C4 discussions regarding projects and give valuable insights into presented projects.

Requirements:

  • A Postgraduate degree (preferably at least Master’s level) in Environmental Science, Climate Change, International Development, or a related field.
  • At least 3 – 5 years experience working in this field.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
  • Sound knowledge of software applications for modeling and GIS work.
  • Experience identifying and developing projects in Carbon and Climate Mitigation or sustainable development.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, national stakeholders and team members.
  • Willingness to take initiative and drive new ideas.
  • An ability to work well under pressure, mentor and advise junior consultants.
  • A strong project management track record and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in R, Python, JavaScript, SQL or other coding language.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who live in Lusaka, Zambia.
