Our client is looking for a highly experienced Construction Project Manager to oversee large-scale construction projects in Zambia. The role involves managing the planning, execution, and finalization of various projects, ensuring quality, safety, and on-time completion. The position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and experience in managing complex construction processes in Africa.
Responsibilities

Project Planning:

Develop comprehensive project plans, defining scope, goals, deliverables, timelines, and resource allocation. Collaborate with senior management and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.

Coordination of Construction Activities:

Oversee daily construction operations, ensuring they align with schedules, quality standards, and contract specifications. Work closely with contractors, architects, engineers, and construction teams to ensure smooth project execution.

Staff Hiring and Management:

Lead the recruitment and management of contractors, subcontractors, and on-site teams. Foster a culture of accountability, performance, and skill development.

Quality Control:

Conduct regular site inspections and implement quality control processes to ensure work adheres to design specifications and industry standards.

Compliance and Safety Management:

Ensure all construction activities comply with safety regulations and environmental standards. Conduct safety briefings and enforce protocols to prevent accidents.

Client and Stakeholder Communication:

Serve as the primary contact for clients and stakeholders, ensuring alignment with project goals. Provide regular updates on project progress, milestones, and any challenges.

Documentation and Reporting:

Manage project documentation, including contracts, permits, and progress reports. Prepare detailed reports on budget performance and project risks.

Problem Solving and Risk Management:

Proactively identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies. Address unexpected challenges such as regulatory changes or material shortages with effective solutions.

Budgeting and Financial Management:

Prepare and manage detailed project budgets, ensuring alignment with financial goals. Address cost overruns and explore cost-saving opportunities.
Key Skills

Strong leadership and team management skills.

Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).

Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and solve problems effectively.

Strong knowledge of local construction laws, safety standards, and environmental regulations.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Financial acumen and budget management experience.

Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.

Experience working in Zambia or other sub-Saharan countries preferred.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (Master’s degree or PMP certification is advantageous).

Minimum of 7-10 years of experience managing large-scale construction projects, particularly in Africa.
