Overall Job Purpose
-
The position of Mechanical Projects Coordinator is to coordinate the initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control of all Mechanical engineering projects across the mine site in a professional manner.

In addition, the mechanical coordinator must ensure that project closure implementation for every completed project with relevant closure documents compiled and filed for future reference.

This role is responsible for delivering all site mechanical projects and structural repair works safely, timely, cost-effectively and efficiently in order to achieve the overall organisational objectives related to safety, quality, costs and relevant statutory requirements.
Specific Job Responsibility
The specific tasks to be performed by the position holder will include;

Coordinating the initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control of all Mechanical engineering projects related to Structural Steel Construction, Mechanical equipment installations, Pumping and Piping Installations and fabrication works.

Project management of all site mechanical projects and structural repair works safely, timely, cost-effectively and efficiently in order to achieve the overall organisational objectives related to safety, quality, costs and relevant statutory requirements.

Carry out legal appointments such as the appointment of supervisors as provided for in your legal appointment as Mechanical Coordinator Projects as provided for under the Zambian Mining regulations.

Give clear direction, control and supervise the Project Mechanical supervisors and Fabrication supervisor to ensure safe and profitable work environment for all.

Design and review of engineering drawings related to Structural Steel Construction, Mechanical equipment installations, Pumping and Piping Installations and fabrication works.

Enforcing QA/QC on all engineering works related projects and maintenance works under the area of responsibility.

Generating quality Mechanical Engineering design specifications, Bill of Materials, Scope of works for all assigned projects.

Generating relevant reports such as Project Status Updates, Weekly Projects Updates Report, Project Closure reports etc. and ensuring timely communication to the project stakeholders.

Be a self-starter and able to work autonomously and as part of a team

Demonstrate a commitment to work place safety and the safety of your subordinates in the area of responsibility.

Ensure subordinates follow laid down policies and procedures as out lined by management.

Enforce Compliance to work order attachments and documents such as JSA’s, Work Procedure’s, SWI’s, etc.

Co-ordinate and ensure compliance with Safety and Environmental Management systems, policies and procedures along with ensuring that all risks have been identified, managed and safe working environment is maintained

Enforce good housekeeping practices are maintained by enforcing cleaning up before, during and after every task and not leaving any hazards within the work place

Provide practical suggestions and implementing Continuous Improvements for the section.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Specific Competencies
-
High co-ordination, control and direction skills including Structural Steel Construction, Mechanical equipment installations, Pumping and Piping Installations and fabrication works.

Construction Projects Management and maintenance supervision background, with preference given to direct mining experience will be an added advantage
-
Design and review of engineering drawings related to Structural Steel Construction, Mechanical equipment installations, Pumping and Piping Installations and fabrication works using CAD Software such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor.

Planning of all project works by developing and maintaining detailed project schedules that outline tasks, milestones, deadlines, resources, manpower histograms and S-curves using relevant project scheduling software such as MS Project , Primavera P6 or another relevant planning package– able to schedule and programme projects and create master schedules, reporting etc.

Effective project cost management and tracking throughout the project management cycle.

Experience required to perform in this job
-
5 years’ minimum experience in the mining industry or equivalent as a Supervisor or higher.
-
Proven Knowledge and experience in Structural Steel Construction, Mechanical equipment installations, Pumping and Piping Installations and fabrication works.
-
Construction and maintenance supervision background, with preference given to direct mining experience.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience
-
Must have worked with a recognised CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System).

Demonstrated competency in Microsoft Projects, Excel and report writing
-
Well-developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills in English.
-
Knowledge and understanding of diverse third world cultures and customs an advantage.
Qualifications
-
Grade 12 Certificate
-
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or its equivalent.
-
Professional Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia
-
Registered Engineer with the Engineer’s Registration Board
-
Must have a valid driver’s licence minimum Class B and having a driving experience of not less than 12 months.

All Qualifications must be certified by ZAQA
-
Eligibility to hold legal appointment as defined by the Mining Regulations of Zambia
