Job description:
Purpose
The S3 Planning Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive maintenance planning strategy for the S3 Process Plant’s physical assets. This role ensures alignment of maintenance work management processes, asset management plans, and inventory strategies with organisational objectives to maximise business value. The coordinator leads the planning team in optimising maintenance schedules, delivering key performance indicators, managing shutdowns, and supporting continuous process improvement, while also contributing to the professional development of the planning team and the standardisation of planning practices across First Quantum.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance and Shutdown Planning:

Lead the team to plan and schedule day-to-day maintenance services and major shutdowns for the S3 Process Plant.

Develop and manage detailed shutdown planning processes, including resource allocation, contractor coordination, and budget oversight.

Oversee the creation of detailed scopes of work for planned tasks, encompassing materials, labour, and access requirements.

Ensure alignment of maintenance plans with operational requirements, safety standards, and asset management strategies.
2. Technical Leadership and Support:

Provide technical expertise and support to maintenance teams, offering guidance on troubleshooting, productivity enhancements, and cost optimisation.

Collaborate with reliability and execution teams to ensure plant master data and CMMS configurations support optimised planning.

Oversee the development and execution of standardised maintenance and shutdown procedures.
3. Team Development and Coaching:

Mentor and coach Planners and Schedulers to improve their understanding of planning and scheduling requirements.

Ensure the planning team’s professional growth through training, performance reviews, and continuous feedback.

Promote a collaborative and positive work environment to ensure high team morale and effective communication.
4. Asset and Resource Management:

Develop and maintain asset management plans aligned with production targets and organisational goals.

Manage rotable assets, ensuring compliance with procedures, timely execution of inspections and repairs, and efficient turnaround times.

Monitor and manage inventory and procurement to maintain optimal stock levels for maintenance activities.
5. Reporting and Performance Tracking:

Deliver weekly, monthly, and annual engineering performance KPIs.

Monitor progress against long-term and shutdown schedules, reporting progress and issues to leadership.

Provide regular updates to stakeholders on maintenance plans, shutdown execution, and associated budget forecasts.
6. Process Improvement and Strategy Development:

Identify opportunities for maintenance process improvement, developing strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve safety.

Participate in plant design reviews, providing recommendations for debottlenecking and efficiency improvements, supported by financial justifications.

Lead the standardisation of maintenance planning processes across the organisation.
7. Compliance and Safety:

Ensure all maintenance and shutdown activities comply with relevant legislation, policies, and safety regulations.

Promote a zero-incident safety culture within the planning team and wider organisation.
8. Stakeholder Engagement:

Establish and maintain open communication with Managers and Superintendents across Planning, Engineering, Process, and Commercial departments.

Act as the primary liaison between maintenance and procurement teams to ensure timely delivery of resources and materials.
9. Document Management:

Lead the document management processes for the S3 Process Plant, ensuring compliance with organisational standards and accessibility for stakeholders.
10. Other Duties:

Perform any additional tasks as assigned by the Superintendent – Asset Management.
Qualifications
Education:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Civil Engineering, or a related field.

Formal Asset Management Qualification (desirable).
Management Competencies:

Excellent leadership, motivational, and interpersonal skills.

Strong analytical skills for understanding equipment requirements and maintenance strategies.

Ability to oversee maintenance plans to maximise plant output while mitigating delays.
Computer Skills:

Proficiency in CMMS and ERP systems (e.g., Pronto, SAP, JDE).

Advanced knowledge of MS Office, MS Project, and Power BI.
Functional Competencies:

Expertise in maintenance planning, scheduling, and budgeting.

Experience in contractor management and shutdown strategies.
Experience

10+ years of industrial maintenance and operations experience.

Significant experience in large-scale base metals processing plants.
-
5+ years in maintenance planning roles, including leadership positions.

3+ years in shutdown management or equivalent project management experience.
