JOB BRIEF

The Credit Officer’s job is to facilitate lending to clients by assessing the creditworthiness and processing relevant paper work.
Credit Officer’s responsibilities include preparation of loan applications, evaluating client’s financial information and calculating risk ratios.
To be successful in this role, one should have a good understanding of lending and customer service. Ultimately, one should help clients acquire loans in a timely manner, while ensuring the institution complies with the Banking and Financial Services Act of Zambia and other internationally accepted lending/financial standards and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Review loan requests(applications);
Asses client’s financial status;
Evaluate creditworthiness and risks;
Contact clients to gather financial data and documentation;
Analyse risks and approve or reject loan request(applications);
Calculate financial ratios (e.g., credit scores and interest rates);
Maintain and update account records indicating the types of loans such as Personal loans, SMEs, Group loans, Order Financing, Invoice Discounting etc;
Follow up with clients about loan repayments and renewals as well as revisions of tenure of loan repayments;
Monitor the performance and progress of existing loans;
Advise management on any loans that may require restructuring based on any new developments that were not in existence at the time of loan approval;
Prepare the BoZ monthly employments statistics
Provide data and information in the preparation in the Bank of Zambia Prudential and other compliance reports;
Preparation and submission of NAPSA, NHIMA and ZRA returns; and,
Any other duties that may be assigned by your supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS – CREDIT OFFICER

Proven working experience as Credit Officer, Loan Officer or similar role
Hands on experience with lending procedures and products
Ability to create and process financial spreadsheets
Strong analytical skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Customer service experience
Ability to work in a goal-oriented environment with minimum supervision
Must be a self-starter and of sober character
Degree in Accountancy, Banking & Finance, Economics or related field
An MBA or Professional qualification in ZiCA, ACCA, CIMA, and CIB will be an added advantage.
2 Years work experience.
