Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (six(6) weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
Located in the Facility Maintenance Section of the Embassy and under the supervision of the Facility Maintenance Assistant, incumbent cleans offices, general work areas, hallways, kitchens, restrooms, and other areas as directed at U.S. Embassy owned or leased facilities. Uses janitorial equipment and tools such as vacuums, buffers, mops, brooms, buckets, and carts. Follows industry
best practices when selecting and using cleaning products and follows all Department safety guidelines and regulations. Supports other activities such as Embassy events, recycling initiatives, and various projects as required.
At least one (1) year of janitorial, custodial, or housekeeping experience is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Basic knowledge of janitorial procedures, methods, and equipment is required. General working knowledge of cleaning solvents, solutions, and chemicals is required.
Limited Knowledge English Reading/Writing/Speaking *Language proficiency will be tested.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must be capable of performing physically demanding work such as heavy lifting, climbing ladders, and frequent kneeling. Must be able to use janitorial equipment including vacuums, carts, hand trucks, buffers, and carpet shampooers. Must be able to utilize appropriate personal protective equipment as required by job activities. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
Must possess good teamwork skills as well as the ability to work independently. Good customer service skills are required.

* IMPORTANT: Applicants who claim status as a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran must submit a copy of their most recent DD-214 (“Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty”), Letter from Veterans’ Affairs which indicates the present existence of a service-connected disability dated within the past six months, equivalent documentation, or certification. A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant. The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
** This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
