The LUSAKA APEX MEDICAL UNIVERSITY (LAMU) is a privately owned University, registered by the Higher Education Authority under the Higher Education Amendment Act No. 23 of 2021 to provide Higher Education in Medical Education. LAMU is regulated by the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ), Nursing & Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ), Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA). Lusaka Apex Medical University is therefore looking for a mature, proactive, and highly motivated and result oriented Zambian with high degree of credibility to fill the following positions:
1. DEAN- FACULTY OF MEDICINE
JOB PURPOSE
The Dean is a senior leadership role, responsible for the overall academic and administrative management of the designated Faculty. The role involves ensuring the smooth running of academic and research programmes, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and strategic growth. The Dean plays a critical role in shaping the Faculty’s long-term vision, advancing academic standards, and securing resources for both teaching and research initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Coordinates and compiles the Budget for the departments under his/ her supervision upon receipt of submissions and proposals from subordinates for incorporation into the Faculty budget once approved.
2. Participates in the formulation and/or reviews of policies and procedures governing the operation of the Faculty, including work manuals and related documentation in order to have in place a sound framework and foundation to achieve the Faculty plans and objectives.
3. Supervises teaching activities in assigned departments of the Faculty, including setting examinations, marking and publication of results in conformity with set teaching and practice standards and methodologies according to each respective area of specialization for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
4. Spearheads the development and review of curricula of courses run by Departments supervised to meet the demands of the industry/society regularly in keeping with trends and improvements in technology and research findings in the field of Medicine.
5. Oversees the enrolment of students and superintends over the registration process to ensure accountability and that programmes are sufficiently subscribed for effective planning in areas of responsibility.
6. Stimulates and Spearheads research activities to generate new knowledge, mobilizing resources, coordinating and supervising all research activities with the aid of subordinates, ensuring that research results are published and disseminated through journals, conferences, seminars.
7. Prepares quarterly and annual operational performance reports highlighting achievements and challenges against set objectives and plans.
8. Mentor students and staff in the Faculty of Medicine so that they are able to achieve their highest potential.
9. Develop and provide social programmes and support for students to aid learning in liaison with Deans of other faculties within the institution and other relevant academic and non-academic Departments.
10. Collaborates on a regular basis through established fora and own initiative with other Faculties/departments in order to inter change knowledge and ideas for the good of the Institution.
11. Keeps up-to-date with relevant student and/or teaching resources, including appropriate modern tools and techniques to ensure provision of high quality services and efficient running of the departments supervised.
12. Oversees the preparation, administration and marking of the final examinations as well as conducting of periodic tests and assignments for continuous assessment of students for courses run by department supervised.
13. Initiates and takes part in outreach programmes aimed at providing a service to vulnerable and disadvantaged communities offering free treatment, education and support.
QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE
2. SENIOR LECTURER INTERNAL MEDICINE
JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for developing, managing and disseminating knowledge to undergraduate students and monitoring undergraduate programs in the department. This includes teaching and training, operational administration, undertaking and guiding research activities in one’s department as well as quality management and enhancement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepares and participates in the preparation of departmental and faculty work plans to achieve objectives and programs.
2. Participating in the formulation/review of policies and preparation/ review of work manuals and procedures and related documentation.
3. Ensure that operational processes such as timetabling and delivering lectures to undergraduate students are well coordinated, curriculum review, closely supervising clinical teaching such as bedside tutorials, student presentations, demonstrations of practical procedures and other practical work.
4. Mentoring and training Junior lecturers and tutors and participates in the preparation and conduction of practical and written examinations in the course taught.
5. Marks students’ examinations paper compiles continuous assessment and final examination results and presents to the board of studies.
6. Undertake and contribute to research, conducting individual research or collaborating with others
7. Supervise and guide undergraduate studies in their research projects.
8. Assessing the research and development requirements of the department through consultation with Head of Department and others on matters relating to research.
9. Writes scholarly materials/papers arising out of research and other studies for publication and/or dissemination through various fora.
10. Presenting papers /materials at seminars, workshops, conferences and participates in conferences both locally and internationally.
11. Carries out field training such as clinical work, evening classes, in-service and post graduate supervision. (Only PhD holders should supervise postgraduate students).
12. Participates and contributes to Departmental meetings and other meetings assigned or appointed to.
