ABOUT MULUNGUSHI UNIVERSITY
Mulungushi University has distinguished itself as a Centre of Excellence in its pursuit of frontiers of
knowledge. It was established by the Government of the Republic of Zambia in January 2008. It
consists of three campuses, namely, the Main Campus situated 26 km from Kabwe town on the Great
North Road, the Town Campus located in the heart of Kabwe, and the Parkview Campus which is the
School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Livingstone.
As a public institution of higher learning, the University is required to contribute to Zambia’s socioeconomic needs for highly qualified and trained human resource, while being expected to be financially self-sustaining.

As at 31st March 2024, the University had a total of 10,442 registered students. The University has a
total of 407 members of staff (297 males and 110 females) of which 139 are academic staff. More

On behalf of the University Council, the Ad-hoc Search Committee invites applications from suitably
qualified individuals for the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor- Academic Affairs.
Job Purpose:
The Deputy Vice Chancellor- Academic Affairs provides leadership and strategic direction and oversees the general academic affairs, admissions, examinations, graduation ceremonies, Senate and its committees in line with the Higher Education Act No. 4 of 2013, (hereafter called the Act), and the Higher Education (Amendment) Act No.23 of 2021, University Statutes, Policies and Regulations.
Key Responsibilities
The role-holder is expected to perform the following roles and responsibilities:-
a) Leadership and Governance
i. Ensures that all University activities and operations on general academic affairs, admissions, examinations, and graduation ceremonies are carried out in compliance with the University governance requirements, and any regulations, rules, laws, codes and standards.
ii. Ensures that Schools offer academic programmes that respond to industry, national and global demands.
iii. Ensures regular reporting on activities related to general academic affairs, admissions, examination, and graduation ceremonies to the Vice Chancellor.
iv. Shall be Secretary of Senate.
v. Provides leadership in the running of programmes in the Schools.
vi. Contributes to public service and intellectual life.
b) Strategy and Management
i. Put in place adequate, appropriate and good working order of all teaching and learning facilities of the University.
ii. Implements the University admissions, examinations, and graduation policy and standard practice.
iii. Ensures that University programmes are adequately advertised.
iv. Facilitates increase in numbers of students benefiting from loans under the Higher
Education Loans and Scholarship Board.
v. Ensures that University programmes are linked and respond to industry needs.
vi. Develops internship programmes for students and ensures their uptake by industry.
vii. Creates linkages with industry and ensures uptake of the graduates.
viii. Ensures regular reporting of industry linkages and benefits to the Vice Chancellor.
ix. Formulates and provides institutional vision and strategic direction in a complex working
environment, and leads the implementation in such a way that inspires, engages all
stakeholders and ensures the participation and support of the University community.
x. Provides strategic academic vision of the University and the need to maintain high standards across all areas of its academic activities in the context of the national policy developments and emerging issues within the higher education sector.
c) Human Capital Development and Management
i. Provides leadership in the performance management of heads of academic units and takes lead in building a competent, experienced and motivated workforce in the area of teaching and learning.
ii. Establishes an environment that promotes a culture of high performance, discipline, and motivation.
Qualifications and Competences
i. Must possess a Grade 12 School Certificate or its equivalent.
ii. Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in any relevant field from a reputable University.
iii. Must possess a Master’s degree in any relevant field from a reputable University.
iv. Must possess an earned PhD from a reputable university.
v. Must be at the level of Associate Professor or higher.
vi. Must possess a minimum of ten years of post-qualifying relevant academic experience,
three of which should be at the level of Dean of School/Faculty or Director in a University or
similar institution.
vii. Accomplished record of scholarly work and research with a minimum h-index of 8.
viii. Must be an active member of a professional body

TENURE
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor- Academic Affairs is appointed for an initial term of four (4) years,
renewable for a similar period depending on performance.
REMUNERATION
The University Council offers a competitive remuneration package to the individual appointed to this
position.
