DIRECTOR-COMMERCIAL

The Zambia Daily Mail Limited is a Company wholly owned by the Industrial Development Corporation. The Company is incorporated under the Companies Act, Cap 388 of the Laws of Zambia. It is the leading publishers of daily newspapers in Zambia.

The Company has a vacancy for the position of Director Commercial and is now inviting suitably qualified Zambians to apply and be considered for the position. This is a Senior Management position reporting to the Managing Director.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To plan and develop strategies that ensure the effective implementation of the department’s day to day commercial functions and thereby promoting the company’s business growth and profitability. The position holder also ensures the daily and timely printing and market availability of the company’s newspapers as well as the effective implementation of all marketing, advertising, courier and commercial printing services offered at Zambia Daily Mail Limited.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES/DUTIES

To achieve the purpose of the job, the holder:

• Ensures that Zambia Daily Mail Limited products and services are produced and provided on time and are of good quality;
• Formulates sales and marketing, courier and advertising plans and strategies for subsequent implementation to retain current clientele but also attract new and more to enhance profitability and growing market of the Zambia Daily Mail Limited newspapers and other products;
• Sources new clients and builds a network of contacts for future business through consultative meetings with various marketing agents including the Zambian Institute of Marketing;
• Plans and administers newspaper and commercial printing, marketing, courier and distribution activities and develops marketing strategy based on knowledge of establishment policy, cost and marketing factors;
• Ensures the accuracy of advertising materials according to specific market or customer requirements;
• Directs sale of advertising services plans, sales campaigns and consults with other departmental heads and officials to promote sale of advertising services to various industries;
• Corresponds with customers, relative to advertising rates and policies or to solicit news business;
• Directs research activities concerned with gathering information or compilation of statistics, pertinent to planning and execution of advertisements;
• Analyses sales statistics to formulate policy and to assist dealers in promoting sales
• Controls expenditure of the department to conform to company budgetary requirements;
• Formulates and implements approved community based social responsibility programmes, such as donations, using set selection criteria;
• Executes the responsibilities of a company director according to lawful and ethical standards;
• Ensure the growth of the organization’s brand integrity through the enhancement of quality of products and services;
• Agree, monitor and review performance of subordinate staff to ensure that they work towards meeting their performance objectives and targets;
• Performs other related duties, as may be directed by the Managing Director from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• A good Grade 12 certificate with at least 5 credits including English and Mathematics;
• A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration or Professional Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing (CIM);
• An MBA and media industry experience will be an added advantage;
• At least 10 years’ job experience in a challenging environment and 5 of which should be at senior management level;
• Valid membership of the Zambia Institute of Marketing is a must;
• Good ICT skills;

• Proven experience in leading and managing multidisciplinary teams, including courier, marketing, advertising and production staff.
• Proven ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining a high standard of quality and innovation.
• Strong attention to detail, time management, organisational and general ability, to guide the business to achieve business goals.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Aself-starter and one requiring very minimal supervision.
