Duties

Located in the Mission Defense Attache Office (DAO), the incumbent uses basic computer skills and employs principles of English composition and grammar in preparing official correspondence in support of DAO requirements as directed under guidance of the Operations Coordinator and Senior Defense Official. This includes the preparation of diplomatic note requests for U.S. military aircraft clearance to host nation governments and other agencies, ministries, and companies. Conducts airport operations for all US aircraft. Conducts a variety of administrative tasks to support the DAO to include purchase requests, email and calendar management, visitor support, and file organization.

Operates and maintains serviceability of DAO motor vehicles for transport of DAO members and visitors to various locations within Lusaka, neighboring areas, and long-distance trips across Zambia. Applies sound judgment in determining shortest, safest, and most practical route to be used in concurrence with economic and safety considerations. Observe all traffic regulations and safe driving practices; as well as maintain a level of professionalism and courtesy expected of a chauffeur of a foreign government representative. Serves as after-hours duty driver for DAO as necessary.  Responsible for the day-to-day preventative maintenance checks and servicing of vehicle daily. Maintains service charts, and completes driving, fuel, and maintenance logs in accordance with directives.

Position is supervised by the Operations Coordinator

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years of professional driving and administrative experience.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

A comprehensive knowledge of Zambia local and federal driving regulations; considerable knowledge of defense driving and vehicle security procedures; good knowledge of administrative procedures, computer skills, GPS navigation devices, and military matters.  Must possess and maintain a current passport for international travel.  Must have a thorough understanding of the organizational structure and operating procedures of the Zambian Government, particularly the MoD, MFA, Customs and Immigration, and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Thorough knowledge of Zambia roads is required, including ability to travel main and alternative routes to Government offices, other Embassies, and establishments frequented by DAO staff.

Education Requirements:
Successful completion of senior secondary school is required.
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE:  Good Working Knowledge in the English Language and Nyanja

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Valid Class B driver’s license is required. Must be able to perform operator-level preventive maintenance, checks, services, and minor automotive repair work.  Must be flexible, dependable, disciplined and on-time. Must be able to provide advice on cultural matters. Must have at least a Class B drivers’ license and be able to operate a manual and automatic transmission vehicle. Must possess basic computer skills and be able to use Microsoft Office. Must possess sufficient professionalism to navigate and expedite host nation governmental processes to ensure the positive forward movement of DAO operations. Must be able to work quickly and calmly under pressure, must be able to organize and prioritize work assignments, provide follow-up, and notify supervisor immediately of potential problems.
