Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Emergency Response – Field Medic – FS (Fixed Term) to join the Project Team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Supervisor – Emergency Response, you will be responsible for providing expedient and effective emergency services in field medic callouts, administering prehospital basic and advanced life support to patients at the scene and enroute to the hospital in accordance with the Zambian law and Barrick standards to minimise health deteriorating situations within Lumwana Mining Company site / Lease area township and community.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Respond to all Emergency situations (Fire/Medical) across site if called upon in a timely and effective manner, to minimize personal injury and suffering, damage to property, or loss of production and the Environment.
  • Conduct /coordinate all forms of site-based Emergency Response training to ERT and employees. Evaluate / identify technical skills deficiencies among Teams and remedy the same through a coaching plan.
  • Training is to include development of manuals and assessment tools to ensure an appropriate level of learning and assessment recording.
  • Develop in house training packages/ manuals for delivery to ER members.
  • Attend all Clinics in a confidential and professional manner.
  • Contribute to availability of Emergency Response stock and equipment by maintaining maintenance schedules.
  • Undertake all duties as directed commensurate with skills knowledge and training.
  • Act as On Scene Commander and assist ER Supervisor & ER technicians to appropriately resolve the situations in a timely manner.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and review safe work procedures to promote high safety and health awareness to ERT in compliance with the LMC Occupational Health & Safety Policy.
  • Develop and maintain register/ plans for all portable / mobile ER equipment across site to achieve legal compliance in terms of inspection, functionality, and maintenance.
  • Compiling weekly/ monthly statistical Reports to management on ERT performance and equipment availability and utilization.
  • Carry out periodical Audits and reviews on all ER equipment / accessories in all Departments across Site to monitor and confirm status.
  • Become actively involved in Barrick’s aims and objectives of engaging with the local community and strive to leave a positive impact on the longer-term outcomes for local people.  Promote the integration between this engagement and the success of the business.
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of up-to-date job procedures for all tasks performed within the function.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate
  • Advanced Life Support Diploma in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Care Providers
  • Minimum of two (2) years post qualification experience in rescue and emergency services in the mining industry
  • Current qualification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and advanced life support essential
  • Certification in confined space and high angle rescue
  • At least three years of work experience in Emergency Medical services preferably in Mining Industry
  • Good computer skills with word processing and spreadsheet applications. (Microsoft packages)
  • Valid Zambian/SADC Driving Licence – Class C.
