Job description:
The Operations Improvement Engineer will be responsible for optimising mining operations to improve costs, throughput and efficiency. It will also involve the improvement of safety and sustainability. The incumbent will also be responsible for tracking production and maintenance KPIs and advising staff accordingly.
Key Responsibilities

The incumbent will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.

Ensure all improvement initiatives comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Analyze current mining and maintenance processes and systems to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.Take interest in potential project and approach supervisor with proposals

Collaborate with the maintenance team to develop improvements to ensuring that mining equipment is maintained efficiently, prolonging equipment life, minimizing operational disruptions, and reducing maintenance costs through proactive and data-driven maintenance strategies.

Develop and implement strategies to enhance operational productivity, reduce operational downtime, and minimize costs

Identify cost-saving opportunities through the optimization of resources, equipment utilization, and labor.

Collect and analyze production, maintenance, safety, and performance data to generate actionable insights.

Create performance dashboards to track KPIs related to production efficiency, safety, and cost. Preparing technical reports in daily, weekly and monthly progress reports

Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to equipment reliability, availability, and maintenance costs, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment lifespan and operational efficiency.

Identify and evaluate emerging technologies and innovative solutions to improve mining operations (e.g., automation, IoT, machine learning, or predictive maintenance).

Foster a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging employees to identify and propose operational enhancements.

Support supervisory roles within production team

Qualifications

Full Grade 12 Certificate
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mining or Mechanical or Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or Related fields

Valid First Aid Certificate

Valid Driver’s Licence
Experience
-
At least 3 – 5 years Computer/Instrumentation working experience would be compulsory

Post University graduation working as Mining Engineer in Open pits
