Zambia Sugar Plc. is a subsidiary of Illovo Sugar Africa (Pty) Ltd Group and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream
products.
The Company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following positions in
the Estate Support Service Department:
ESTATE CIVIL ENGINEER x 1 – PERMANENT
This position reports to the Estate Maintenance Manager.
Key Performance Areas
-
Ensure relevant Zambia Sugar and Illovo Ways and legislative and regulatory standards, systems, processes and requirements are met and implemented.

Effectively manage technical services and processes that support the core business such as provision of employee housing, warehouse maintenance, Civil Agriculture and Factory buildings infrastructure Maintenance.

Support the strategic planning of operations in relation to buildings and premises.

Manage and embed an optimized portfolio of estate support services to support employee wellbeing.

Ensure provision of building maintenance services.

Ensure the estate is maintained in line with Illovo minimum standards.

Ensure building maintenance services are managed within budget.
-
Ensure relevant estate capital expenditure and services are optimized.

Promote a culture of continuous improvement.

Adhere to SHERQ standards and promote world class safety practices.

Adopt and embed agreed best practices, frameworks, and minimum standards for all aspects of Civil Engineering estate maintenance and Planning.

Coordinate different Civil Engineering Teams to ensure continuous and optimum operations including Maintenance Planning.

Develop, implement and update standards operating procedures to economize operations in the repair and maintenance of facilities while increasing productivity, in line with Illovo minimum standards and processes.

Prepare annual operating budget including special projects and specified requisites.

Control costs and schedules for housing maintenance in line with Illovo procurement requirements and current building trade practices.

Prepare estimates and assist in budgeting for proposed construction and maintenance work.

Control & monitor quality of outsourced maintenance work.

Set work standards for Contractors to ensure compliance with Illovo standard procedures and legal requirements.

Serve as a primary point of contact for employee housing maintenance.

Manage all Civil Engineering personnel to ensure maintenance is carried out in an effective and efficient manner in compliance with the set standards, permit conditions, rules and regulations.

Ensure that major upgrades, routine planned maintenance & emergency repairs are executed in accordance with policy and required standards and satisfy customer needs.

Create and implement communication plans with employees regarding scheduled and unscheduled maintenance works.

Review relevant estate project documentation from consultants, contractors for compliance with relevant regulation, guidelines and policies and ensure alignment with required standards, processes, and legislation.

Monitor and control materials issued to the contractors to prevent wastage, abuse and theft.

Maintain maintenance management documentation on equipment, drawings and reference manuals.

Ensure customer complaints and inquiries are resolved quickly and effectively.

Conduct studies on, provide recommendations on and monitor the implementation of mandated environmental reports such as state of housing report, structural integrity reports.

Oversee effective talent and performance management within estate maintenance civil engineering team.

Identify and implement ‘fit for purpose’ technology to enable effective for estate maintenance in the area of jurisdiction.
Minimum specifications / Requirements areas
-
Grade Twelve (12) Certificate.
-
Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Civil Engineering.

Professional Engineer of EIZ and Registered Engineer with Engineering Registration Board.

5+ years management experience (min 5 years business optimization / capital exposure and facilities experience).

Demonstrable track record and experience in Structural Design and Analysis.

Impressive, demonstrable track record and skills/experience gained within a similar position(s), at a similar level.
