Position: Extension Officer / Organic Trainer
Location: Kasisi
Reports to: KATC Director / Programme Manager
Purpose of the Job
To facilitate the efficient and effective implementation of KATC programs that promote sustainable organic agriculture and agroecology among smallholder farmers, multipliers, and other stakeholders. The Extension Officer / Organic Trainer will provide technical training, on-farm advisory services, and support farmer-led innovation, ensuring improved productivity, resilience, and market access for participating communities.
Key Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and deliver field-based training sessions, workshops, and demonstrations on sustainable organic farming practices.
Provide regular on-site advisory services to smallholder farmers and farmer groups in KATC’s operational areas.

Facilitate the adoption of sustainable organic and agroecological practices that enhance soil health, crop diversity, and resilience to climate change.

Support activities around farmer managed seed systems, bio-fertilizer production, nutrition, market linkages, landscape interventions in collaboration with KATC programs.

Collect, document, and report data on farmer progress, challenges, and success stories for program monitoring and evaluation.

Network and collaborate with government extension officers, NGOs, and other stakeholders to strengthen farmer support systems.

Promote in agricultural training and opportunities.

Include cross-cutting issues like gender equity, youth participation, people with disabilities, HIV and climate change in day to day work.

Assist in organizing field days, exhibitions, and exchange visits to showcase best practices.

Ensure adherence to KATC’s principles, code of conduct, and safety procedures during all activities.
Qualifications, Experience, and Requirements

Minimum Certificate in Agricultural Science or a related field (Diploma preferred).
Experience in extension work, farmer training, or field-based agricultural advisory services.

Knowledge and practical skills in organic agriculture and/or agroecology is an added advantage.

Fluency in English and at least two local Zambian languages.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Self-starter with initiative, problem-solving ability, and strong interpersonal skills.

Honest, punctual, and reliable.

Valid driver’s license for a car and/or motorbike.

Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Working Conditions
This position is field-based with frequent travel to rural project sites.
May require working outside regular office hours to meet farmer schedules.
