Fabrication Expert – Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Support

Purpose of the Role

The Fabrication Expert provides advanced boilermaking and structural fabrication services in support of electrical and instrumentation (E&I) installations on the Lumwana Expansion Project. This role focuses on precision fabrication and installation of structural steel components, cable management systems, and E&I mounting supports. The Fabrication Expert ensures that all work complies with project specifications, MEIBC standards, Zambian statutory requirements, and strict health, safety, and environmental protocols.

Key Responsibilities

Fabricate and install precision steel structures for cable trays, junction boxes, instrument stands, lighting poles, and other E&I equipment in accordance with technical drawings and specifications.
Interpret and apply E&I and structural drawings to ensure correct dimensions, tolerances, and alignments.
Operate fabrication and welding equipment (Arc, MIG, TIG) safely and efficiently for light to medium structural works.
Collaborate closely with electrical and instrumentation teams to align fabrication works with installation schedules and commissioning requirements.
Perform welding, hot works, and cutting under the site’s permit-to-work and fire prevention systems.
Conduct self-checks and participate in quality inspections, including basic NDT processes where required.
Maintain fabrication tools, welding equipment, and consumables in optimal working condition.
Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards in line with site housekeeping standards.
Fully comply with Lumwana project HSE requirements, attending inductions, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.
Accurately record daily activities, material usage, time allocations, and report challenges or delays to supervisors.
Promptly report hazards, near misses, and incidents to site safety personnel.

Education & Certification

Grade 12 (Matric) completed; Mathematics and Science advantageous
Recognised Red Seal Trade Certificate (Boilermaker/Fabrication) issued by:
QCTO (Quality Council for Trades & Occupations), or
Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), or
MERSETA-accredited Trade Test Centre
Valid Section 13 or Section 26D trade qualification under the Skills Development Act

Experience

Minimum 5 years post-trade experience in structural steel fabrication, welding, and installation on site-based projects
Prior experience in mining, heavy industry, or large-scale infrastructure projects preferred
Demonstrated expertise in fabrication and installation for E&I cable management systems and mounting solutions

Desirable Skills & Attributes

Background in mining expansion or other complex construction environments
Familiarity with MEIBC conditions of employment, including wage structures and working hours
Strong communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary environment
Ability to work accurately with minimal supervision and contribute to high-quality project delivery
