The Golden Valley Agricultural Research Trust (GART) is a Public-Private Partnership Research Institution involved in Applied and Adaptive Research. GART runs a workshop of farm machinery and equipment which supports activities of its Commercial Farm. The workshop also undertakes the repairs and maintenance of a fleet of vehicles and motorbikes.
GART wishes to invite applications for the following vacant position:
FARM WORKSHOP MECHANIC
The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:
Must be in possession of a Diploma/Degree in Agricultural/Mechanical Engineering or related from a reputable institution with a minimum of 5 years industry-related experience.
Previous experience as a Workshop Mechanic will be an advantage.
Experience in Tractors, Diesel Machines and Farm implements
Ability to Work with minimum supervision.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The key responsibilities for this job shall be (and not limited to) the following;
Planning in liaison with the Farm Manager, and execution of workshop tasks with extremely high levels of prioritizing and efficiency
Ensuring farm machinery and equipment are timely serviced and in good working condition.
Diagnosing mechanical problems/issues on each and every machinery and equipment
Repairing of farm machinery and equipment when they break down
Overhauling of farm machinery and vehicles
Calibrating or/and setting up farm machinery and equipment for fieldwork
Knowledge about irrigation mechanics (booster pump installations, borehole pumps, centre pivots) is an added advantage.
Maintaining accurate records of repairs and maintenance works on every machinery and equipment
Willing to work long and awkward hours as situations may demand on a busy commercial farm
Ensure machinery and equipment, the workshop & its surroundings are kept in a tidy condition
Supervision of workshop staff
