Job purpose
Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) is an international non-governmental organization that specializes in the design and construction of pedestrian footbridges. We are seeking a Foreperson to lead construction projects in support of our Zambia Program.
The Foreperson is responsible for overseeing daily operations at project sites, ensuring projects are completed safely, to the standard, and on time. The ideal candidate has prior experience in managing workers and coordinating tasks on construction sites, is willing to learn and transfer knowledge to others, has good knowledge of construction sequences. In addition, he/she is detail-oriented, hard-working, passionate about community development, self-motivated, organized, timely, and a team-player.
The Foreperson will report to the Zambia Project Engineer, and will spend the majority of time working upcountry. Primary roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Managing all on-site activities ensuring compliance with project plan and safety protocols.

Lead, coordinate, and supervise the work of construction workers, masons, carpenters, and other site personnel.

Managing masons, casual workers, and cook and security personnel on site

Recruiting casual laborers

Preparing tools and PPE at beginning of the day and executing check out procedures

Preparing Daily Work Plans and two-week plans.

Communicating with local community Bridge Committee

Assisting with Quality Control documentation and photos

Preparing and executing site payrolls
-
Estimating site material and labor needs
-
Financial reporting on site expenditures
-
Procuring of local materials
-
Assisting with BOQ and schedule development
-
Assisting with enforcing site safety including proper PPE usage

Documentation including Daily Work Plans, material delivery records, worker contracts, weekly inventories, etc

Reporting to government partners and internally to B2P

Maintenance training for bridge committee/masons/carpenters
-
Maintain positive relationships with local partners, organizations, universities, and community officials

Work harmoniously with rural communities, local governments and Zambia B2P team to ensure projects are being delivered timely and effectively

Identify and address any issues or deficiencies in the construction process

Support the overall success of the Zambia Program as needed and requested
Qualifications:

Minimum of ordinary diploma in building and civil engineering
-
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on work experience in construction
-
Ability to read and interpret drawing plans and specifications
