The Company Globe 24-7 in partnership with a key client in Southern Africa is working together to source experienced and qualified talent to join their team
The Role
The successful candidate will join the management team and is expected to take a leadership role in various legal, ethical, and governance matters. Additionally, they will contribute to the broader agenda of the client’s group. The role reports operationally to the General Manager and functionally to the Group General Counsel and Company Secretary.
The Responsibilities

Uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct in line with the Group Code of Ethics and relevant policies, including the Group Anti-Corruption Policy and the Group Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing Policy.

Lead the resolution of disputes and contentious matters, including the company’s innovative Operational Grievance Mechanism (OGM), and assist with the criminal prosecution of illegal activities related to mining operations.

Identify and advise on obligations under relevant Zambian legislation, particularly regarding health, safety, and the environment (HSE).

Collaborate with the Group Internal Audit function to monitor, audit, and report on compliance with applicable obligations and Group policies and procedures.

Review and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including project agreements, supplier agreements, confidentiality agreements, and terms & conditions of business.

Assist the Head of Human Resources with employment and labor law matters, including disciplinary processes.

Advance the Group’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda by providing legal support for Corporate Responsibility projects and advising on human rights issues.

Provide guidance on Zambian corporate law and company secretarial practices.

Offer day-to-day legal and commercial advice as needed.

Manage external counsel.
The Requirements

This role is exclusively open to Zambian nationals.
-
Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B).

Legal Practitioner with at least five years of experience at the Bar, holding a current Practising Licence from the Law Association of Zambia.

Must uphold impeccable standards of integrity and ethics.

Experience gained in-house or at a leading law firm in Zambia.

Previous experience in the mining or extractives industry sector (highly advantageous).

Strong understanding of Zambian civil and criminal legislation and related legal frameworks.

Experience in employment law will be beneficial.

Ability to carry out work with high levels of professionalism, sensitivity, discipline, responsibility, leadership, and good judgment (including knowing when to act independently and when to consult on tasks).

Trustworthy and diplomatic with confidential (often highly confidential) or sensitive information.

Excellent English communication skills (oral and written) with strong attention to detail.

Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
