Job Description

To create unparalleled safari experiences while upholding the values of conservation and sustainability. Responsible for managing the camp’s safari guiding team, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, and maintaining compliance with conservation and safety protocols. The Head Ranger serves as the face of the camp’s wilderness experience, delivering world-class service and fostering a deep connection between guests and the natural environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enforce adherence to environmental conservation practices and guidelines.
  • Implement and maintain safety protocols during all game drives, bush walks, and outdoor activities.
  • Monitor and address any potential risks or hazards in the field.
  • Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of safari vehicles and equipment.
  • Liaise with local authorities and conservation organizations when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with national park regulations and licenses.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of wildlife, flora, and fauna to enhance guest education.
  • Assist in data collection and monitoring of wildlife populations as part of the camp’s conservation efforts.
  • Work closely with other departments, including hospitality and maintenance, to ensure a seamless guest experience.
  • Support marketing efforts by providing insights, wildlife updates, and guest testimonials.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate the guiding team to uphold the camp’s high standards.
  • Schedule and coordinate daily activities for rangers, ensuring efficient team operations.
  • Conduct regular training sessions to enhance the skills and knowledge of the guiding team.
  • Deliver personalized, educational, and memorable safari experiences tailored to guest preferences.
  • Ensure all guides offer consistent and professional interactions with guests.
  • Handle guest feedback and resolve issues related to safari activities in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Education:
Diploma or degree in Wildlife Management, Conservation, Tourism, or related fields (preferred).

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in a luxury safari camp or lodge is highly desirable.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of local ecosystems, wildlife behavior, and conservation practices.
  • Proficiency in navigation, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling abilities to engage guests.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (essential).

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid professional guiding license as per local regulations.
Firearm proficiency certification for bush safety (if applicable).
Valid driver’s license with off-road experience.
