Position Overview:

Our client is seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty equipment used in mining and agricultural operations. This role demands expertise in earthmoving equipment and knowledge of K-pneumatics systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Equipment Maintenance and Repairs:
    • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in heavy-duty machinery.
    • Perform scheduled maintenance and preventive checks on equipment.
    • Repair and replace faulty components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulics.
  2. Diagnostics and Troubleshooting:
    • Use advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to identify mechanical failures.
    • Address issues promptly to minimize downtime.
    • Implement corrective actions to ensure equipment operates at optimal performance.
  3. Specialized Knowledge:
    • Apply expertise in earthmoving equipment, such as loaders, bulldozers, and excavators.
    • Utilize knowledge of K-pneumatics systems for diagnostics and repairs.
    • Work on agricultural machinery when required, ensuring cross-functional capabilities.
  4. Health, Safety, and Compliance:
    • Adhere to safety protocols and standards at all times.
    • Maintain detailed records of repairs and maintenance for compliance purposes.
    • Ensure all work complies with manufacturer guidelines and company policies.
  5. Team Collaboration:
    • Work closely with operators and other technical teams to identify issues and solutions.
    • Provide training or guidance to junior mechanics as needed.

Job Specifications:

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or craft certificate in Heavy Equipment Mechanics, Automotive Mechanics, or a related field.
  • Certification in K-pneumatics systems is an added advantage.
  • Valid driver’s license (Class C or equivalent).

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic.
  • Proven experience in either a mining or agricultural settings is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in diagnosing and repairing earthmoving equipment.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
