The overall responsibility of the Home Economics Training Assistant is to effectively manage the day-to-day function and training within the HE Training Lab. The HE Training Assistant will plan for and provide the practical instruction under the supervision of and coordination with the HE Theory instructor. The HE Training Assistant will ensure that all materials and equipment are ready for each day and that equipment and material inventories are kept managed.
The position holder serves at the practical instructor along with the HE Theory Instructor for the HE courses offered

Typical Responsibilities – Key End Results of Position
Oversite
-
HE Lab Use and Maintenance: Oversee, guide and plan for the use and maintenance of all the equipment and materials in the Sewing/Tailoring Lab/Kitchen/Kitchen for the benefit of the children’s educational needs.

Teachers and Staff needs: Coordinate with individual teachers and staff as well as departments of FL to help provide for sewing/tailoring projects for the children in the HE Program.

HE Equipment and Materials Inventory: Track and maintain an inventory of all supplies and equipment in the Sewing/Tailoring Lab/Kitchen. Submit requests for supplies in a timely manner such that the inventory is maintained for optimal efficiency. Schedule maintenance for equipment and alert the Lead HE Teacher/Head Teacher/ Senior Program Manager for Trades and Innovation of the need for unscheduled maintenance when it arises.

Current Partnerships: Continually evaluate the need for equipment maintenance and work with current vendors to maintain the equipment and work with them to provide the best quality service at the best possible price, Also, work with procurement to continually search for supplies for the sewing/tailoring program and to ensure that effort is made to find the best value for money on supplies and balance that with delivering a top-quality product and high-quality instruction.

Potential Partnerships: Continually look for competitive vendors to give more options in providing supplies for the sewing/tailoring program. Additionally, they will constantly be working to find new vendors that deliver needed supplies that are high quality and better priced.

Teachers and Staff: Provide quality sewing/tailoring services to teachers, staff, as well as TOL and LA departments in a timely manner and at a competitive price to expand the trades education opportunities for the children at the TOL.

External Customers: Continuously search for and maintain external customers to serve by provide quality sewing/tailoring services in a timely manner and at a competitive price to expand the trades education opportunities for the children at the TOL.

Risk Management: Proactively monitor the sewing/tailoring trades program and its equipment as a whole to ensure key risks are mitigated in a timely manner.

Reporting: Report problems and concerns in a timely manner to the Lead HE Teacher/Head Teacher/ Senior Program Manager for Trades and Innovation and strive to work proactively rather than reactively.

Child Protection: Provide oversight in cooperation with other staff to ensure the compliance and coherence of Family Legacy’s Child Protection Policy and Social Media Guidelines to safeguard and protect children from all forms of harm and abuse.

Grade 12 certificate

Diploma and or TEVETA Level One Certification

Work experience in a similar position.

Fluency in English spoken and written

Competency in computer skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.)
