JOB OVERVIEW

The Human Resources (HR) Officer reports to the Country Manager. The purpose of this position is to provide HR support to clients on integrated HR solutions including workforce planning, talent acquisition, performance management, talent development, leadership development, employee relations and general employee well-being.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Talent Acquisition (30%)

  • End to end recruitment coordination in an effective, timely, fair and transparent manner (including preparing and circulating job adverts, developing assessment tools, evaluating applications, interviewing and making recommendations, reference checks, preparing job offers and related documentation).
  • Provide guidance to the hiring managers on job reviews and development of job descriptions, grading, process.
  • Provide advice to new staff on benefits entitlement (medical, pension and group life).
  • Coordinate the onboarding process and ensure all new hires have a good understanding of and subscribe to Amref’s vision, mission and values by understanding it’s approaches, policies, procedures, strategies and operations to perform their job.
  • Coordinate and provide relevant statistical information and data on recruitment activities, gender analysis, and other applicable recruitment metrics.

Technical and Operational Support (30%)

  • Support Country office e.g. work force planning, payroll, performance management, talent management, learning & development, HRIS review, DEI review, culture surveys and action planning, among others.
  • Coordinate country HR initiatives the relevant departments.
  • Contribute to the establishment and use of regional databases and e-resources including regional good practices relating to HR as part of the wider knowledge management strategy in the country.
  • Administration of staffing changes promotion, transfers and terminations in consultation with the relevant line managers.
  • Maintain confidential records related to grievances and complaints and coordinate their resolution.
  • Overall International assignees document processing.
  • Facilitate employee separation process compliance with Amref’s policies, procedures and local labor laws.
  • Provide ongoing support and coaching to line managers on various HR matters.

Change Management and Capacity Development (25%)

  • Work with the talent team to provide and communicate relevant learning and development opportunities for the employee.
  • Coordinate and follow through the administration of the delivery of staff learning and development initiatives as per the needs identified.
  • Facilitate mutual learning of Country Office by disseminating best practices in HR.
  • Through constant engagement with stakeholders, identify improved ways of working.
  • Develop and maintain the country HR database to monitor the trends and patterns in the units supported and come up with recommendations and follow up actions.
  • Ensure alignment of Country office HR practices, policies and procedures to Amref’s strategy, policies, practices and procedures.
  • Coordinate change initiatives with the entities/units supported; support initiatives to drive a positive work environment.
  • Promote Amref staff culture initiatives to enhance collaboration across the organization.

Stakeholder Management (10%)

  • Maintain good working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Stay abreast of developments in HR trends and best practices; share information with the relevant parties.

General (5%)

  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Education and Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or its equivalent.
  • Member of a recognized human resources professional body.

Experience

  • Minimum of (5) years’ experience as a human resources generalist.
  • Experience working in a busy, cross-cultural environment.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Project administration experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Office and the ability to use technology in a global environment.
  • Conversant with labor legislations related to human resources and employee management.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in a professional manner.
  • Ability to complete a variety of tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Report writing skills.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Flexible, comfortable with deadlines and able to work well under pressure.
  • Team player.
  • A good understanding of the Humanitarian industry.
