BACKGROUND
Amref Health Africa was founded in 1957 and has since grown to become the largest African-based international health development organisation; currently implementing more than 180 programs, reaching more than 40 million people across 35 African countries; and a staff complement of over 2,000. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, Amref Health Africa has offices in ten countries in Africa – Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Guinea (Conakry), Kenya, Malawi, Senegal, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. An additional eleven advocacy and fundraising offices are located in Europe and North America.

In Zambia, Amref is registered as a local organisation since 2016. Amref Zambia is affiliated to Amref
headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. Amref Zambia is also linked with Amref Health Innovations (AHI), Amref International University and Amref Flying Doctors.
Amref was locally registered in 2016 and has since collaborated with the Government of the Republic of Zambia in designing and implementing innovative health development programmes across the country in health workforce, health financing, maternal, newborn and child health, and health security. The organisation has physical presence in 4 provinces and a programmatic presence across the country.
JOB PURPOSE
The ICT Officer will initiate and maintain dynamic information systems that caters for Amref Health Africa’s information technology needs and ensure use of appropriate information technology in line with the Amref Health Africa’s ICT corporate strategy.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Network Administration Services
-
Regular evaluation of current computer hardware/software to provide a timely replacement schedule or upgrade.
-
Testing new programs before user installation and implantation; and
-
Setting up and maintaining all internet and Microsoft Office 365 applications.
Technical Support and Capacity Building
-
Receiving support calls via telephone, e-mail, Helpdesk) and diagnosing issues from all staff for
appropriate solutions.
-
Providing relevant information about the system to enable resource access.
-
Guiding users systematically to trouble shoot systems and offering immediate and alternative solution to issues.
-
Logging user issue for escalation either to the HQ ICT Team or product/service supplier.
-
Facilitating IT training to all Amref Health Africa staff in Zambia for effective utilization of Amref Health Africa’s core systems and new products.
-
Providing technical support and troubleshooting for installed servers, including implementation of disaster recovery plans and prepare standard procedures for monitoring servers, and ensure that they are fully operational.

General ICT support across sites and field offices
System & Information Security
-
Undertaking unexpected and regular ICT support visits to field offices for on-site as well as remote connection support.

supporting country program in setting up the infrastructure for virtualization and private cloud basics.

Administering E-policy Spam Titan antivirus and client update and configuration.
-
Publishing of internal resource for external access
-
Patching application with current security updates and hot fixes.
-
Ensuring all users have necessary permissions to securely access applications in HQ including but not limited to shared drives, ERP System, Intranet, FortiClient, ServiceDesk etc.
System analysis, development, implementation and maintenance
-
Virtual servers design, implementation and maintenance;
-
Performing infrastructure/software design development to ensure compatibility and operationally with Amref Health Africa’s LAN and WAN requirements;
-
Participating in the definition, designing, testing and implementation of new Information Technology (IT) hardware and software and application standards for Amref Health Africa based on user requirements and in accordance with the ICT strategy.

Resolve any Hardware (PCs, Routers, switches, Servers) Configuration related problems; and
-
Testing and configuring all new equipment, particularly notebooks, desktops, and servers, to ensure compatibility with Amref Health Africa requirements and standards.

POC for new and existing technologies
Inventory management & Maintenance
-
Maintaining software and hardware inventory;
-
Ensuring secure custody of equipment within the Amref Health Africa Zambia Country Office; and
-
Supervising equipment preventive maintenance and carry out a regular evaluation of current
hardware/software in order to provide a timely replacement schedule or upgrade.
Information Management
-
Coordinating the production of technical instruction materials for technical and user support and ensure the documentations are kept up to date.
-
Develop and implement in-country ICT policies and procedures.
-
Identify and recommend new technologies to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
ANY OTHER TASKS
-
Advisory roles to Country Programs ICT officers on Systems management, support and
troubleshooting; and
-
Advisory on procurement of technical equipment and related.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES
Education and Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field.
-
Microsoft certified Professional.
-
Networking certifications e.g. CISCO certifications CCNP.
-
Virtual Systems related Certifications – e.g Vmware, HyperV
-
Enterprise Storage Certifications – e.g Netapp, EMC
-
Knowledge and experience in Office365, Microsoft Dynamics Nav/Business central Applications,
SharePoint, SQL configuration and management.

Must be a member of the Information and Communications Technology Association of Zambia (ICTAZ)

Four (4) years working in a large network environment infrastructure.

Systems Administration and Management.
