Job description:
Overall Job Purpose

Responsible for assisting in establishment of preventative and responsive electrical maintenance and development within the infrastructure area and across the site, to ensure maximum operational performance is achieved in a safe and cost effective manner while ensuring compliance with relevant procedures, polices, legal requirements and consent conditions.

Keep all electrical infrastructure documentation updated and comply with the Zambian statutory regulations.

Give guidance and engineering support to the site to improve electrical infrastructure equipment availability.
Specific Job Responsibility

This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to Health, Safety, Environment and quality, as well as Finance, Human Resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.

Installation
-
Installation of new electrical infrastructure systems, replacement of old, faulty or redundant electrical systems as per the company and vendor’s safety and quality specifications.
-
Ensure that all electrical infrastructure equipment have the correct hardware interlocking and safety parameter settings for effective and safe operation.
-
Adhere to the companies planned and preventative maintenance schedules and procedures.
-
Effectively maintain the electrical infrastructure equipment with the minimum effect on the plant production.

Reporting and Record Keeping.
-
Report all incidents immediately to the supervisor.
-
Ensure that all safety and substation logbooks are checked and signed according to the procedure
.
-
Ensure that stock levels of electrical infrastructure equipment are maintained in the warehouse and report all defective or substandard equipment to your direct supervisor.
-
Maintain the correct and safe usage of all hand tools within your section.
-
Report all defective tools, record and control all replacement of tools.

Training and development.
-
Identify needs for specialised training requirements within your area.
-
No person is allowed to operate any equipment without an official driving operating permit.
-
Any other duties as directed by the superintendent, electrical infrastructure.
Job Specific Competencies
(knowledge/ skills required for job success)
-
Troubleshooting of electrical infrastructure equipment.
-
Experience in the operation and maintenance of overhead lines, and high voltage equipment.
-
Experience in Siemens, ABB, Schneider VSDs, soft starters and SIMOCODE motor protection controls would be advantageous.
-
Experience and knowledge on ABB SF 6 Circuit breakers would be advantageous.
-
Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas.
-
Ability to quickly adapt to technological changes in high voltage electrical maintenance items.
-
Demonstrated ability to work safely and improve team safety awareness.
-
Ability to diagnose problems and potential problems of electrical infrastructure equipment.
-
Certification of HV switching from MSD would be advantageous.

Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)

Experience required to perform in this job
(i.e. years of experience performing the same or related areas)

Ten years’ experience in a mining environment working as a senior supervisor.
-
Five years’ experience as an electrical infrastructure senior supervisor.
-
Knowledge of LV systems, MCC’s and protection.
-
Knowledge of LV and MV Transformers.
-
Knowledge of electrical motors.
-
Maintenance of overhead power transmission systems.
-
Good knowledge on the use of electrical measuring instruments.
-
Reading electrical drawings.
-
Computer literate.
-
Experience on power distribution systems is essential.
-
Maintenance of generator / power plants is essential.
Qualifications
(Academic/ technical and or professional qualification required for the job)

Minimum of a grade 12 school certificate.
-
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
-
Registered member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ)
-
Ability to register as a member of the Engineering Registration Board of Zambia (ERB).
-
Provincial Driving Permit for LV.
