THE ENGINEERING INSTITUTION OF ZAMBIA
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
The Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ), a statutory body established under the EIZ Act No. 17 of 2010, is mandated to regulate the engineering profession in Zambia in order to ensure excellence, integrity, and accountability in engineering practice. In line with strengthening its governance and regulatory capacity, the Institution is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified and highly motivated individual to fill the position of
Legal Counsel
at management level.
Key Responsibilities
The Legal Counsel will report to the Chief Executive Officer and will be responsible for:

Providing legal advisory services to Management, Council, and Committees of the Institution

Drafting, reviewing, and interpreting contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to safeguard the interests of the Institution.

Ensuring compliance of the Institution with relevant laws, regulations, and policies.

Managing litigation, disputes, and legal proceedings on behalf of the Institution.

Offering guidance on governance, statutory obligations, and regulatory matters under the EIZ Act.

Coordinating with external counsel where necessary.

Supporting enforcement of professional conduct and disciplinary procedures.

Preparing legal opinions, reports, and submissions to Management and Council.

Contributing to policy development, law reform proposals, and institutional capacity building

Supervising and mentoring staff within the Legal Unit.
Qualifications and Experience:

Full Grade 12 Certificate with 5 credits or better, including English.

Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university.

Advocate of the High Court of Zambia with a valid Legal Practitioners Practising Certificate.

A minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience, with at least 3 years at management or senior advisory level, preferably in a regulatory body, public institution, or corporate environment.

Master of Laws (LLM), Business Administration, or related field will be an added advantage.

Proven experience in contract negotiation, regulatory compliance, governance, and litigation management.

Strong analytical, negotiation, and drafting skills.

High ethical standards, integrity, and ability to work with confidential information.
