Summary
The Legal Officer – Debt Recovery will assist in handling legal matters related to debt recovery and litigation. This role involves supporting the development and execution of legal strategies for recovering outstanding debts and resolving disputes while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and internal policies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Debt Recovery
:

Support the issuance of demand letters and initiate legal recovery processes for overdue debts.

Collaborate with internal collections teams and external agencies to optimize recovery efforts.

Assist in negotiating payment plans and settlements with debtors.

Monitor recovery performance and report challenges to senior legal management.

Litigation Support
:

Assist in managing the organisation’s litigation cases related to debt recovery and contractual disputes.

Draft basic legal documents, including demand letters, pleadings, and settlement agreements, under supervision.

Liaise with external legal counsel to ensure proper representation in legal proceedings.

Track ongoing cases, providing timely updates to senior legal staff.

Legal Advisory
:

Provide basic legal advice to internal teams regarding credit risk, collections processes, and dispute resolution.

Assist in reviewing legal agreements and contracts, ensuring they comply with organizational policies.

Stay informed of changes in debt recovery laws and provide updates to the team.
Requirements
:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) with a valid practicing certificate.
-
1–3 years of experience in legal practice, preferably in litigation or debt recovery.

Basic understanding of debt recovery processes, legal proceedings, and court procedures.

Strong communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.

Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines under supervision.

Proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
