In Zambia, SCI has been implementing programs across Child Rights Governance, Health and Nutrition, Child Protection, Education, Child Poverty and Humanitarian thematic areas since 1983.
SCI, in partnership with MAP International and the Zambian Ministry of Health (MOH) with funding from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Charity (LDSC) is implementing the Integrated Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Nutrition (IMNCHN) Project. The goal of the project is to contribute to the reduction in maternal, newborn, and child mortality, stillbirths, and morbidity in Mongu district of the Western province. The project is currently supporting twelve health facilities in Mongu district, including two hospitals and 10 health centres to ensure:
I. Sustained improvements in equitable access to and quality of maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health and nutrition services (including people with disabilities)
II.Increased demand and enhanced social norms for preventative health behaviors and use of health services
III. Increased capacity of local institutions and organizations to sustainably deliver evidence-based, quality health and nutrition services.
ROLE PURPOSE:
The Maternal Newborn and Child Health and Adolescent Coordinator under the supervision of Program Manager will be primarily responsible for coordinating and ensuring effective implementation of activities to increase access to MNCH services in Mongu district, and collaborating with other project team members to ensure implementation of the activities and improve demand and use of health services and increased capacity for local institutions to deliver evidence-based quality care
He/She will be responsible for the implementation of the MNCH activities in the supported health facilities. S/he will work in collaboration with the Mongu DHO team and other stakeholders to ensure the provision of quality MNCHN services to women, and children through technical capacity enhancement and quality improvement initiatives. S/he will work collaboratively with the local authorities to strengthen systems and capacity for the delivery of evidence-based high-impact interventions to enhance maternal, newborn and child survival

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Technical Leadership
-
In consultation with PM and Technical advisor, lead development and implementation of evidence-based strategies and activity workplans, for increased equitable access to quality MNCH services.

Coordinate with Mongu District Health Office and other stakeholders in planning and implementation of mentorship and technical assistance activities to ensure increased access to quality MNCHN services to women, children, and adolescents
-
Coordinate capacity-building efforts (training, supportive supervision, and mentoring) to promote integration and minimize thematic vertical trainings and implementation within the project.

Lead coordination and implementation of activities to strengthen capacity of DHO and HFs to adopt and effectively implement MPDSR maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Review implementation of recommendations

Support the DHO and health facilities in rolling out routine Service Quality Assessments (SQA) for MNCHN services to monitor compliance with set standards, identify and implement interventions to improve the quality of care

Support the DHO in rolling out and institutionalizing the quality-of-care standards for maternal and newborn health services including small and sicks newborns

Strengthen reporting, data review and the utilization of data to identify gaps, develop and implement remedial measures to identified performance gaps

Provide technical leadership for continuous quality improvement for MNCHN services and the implementation of quality improvement projects for MNCHN services

Responsible for integrating nutrition (IYCF, IMAM, and maternal nutrition) and adolescents tailored needs into MNCH services, quality improvement activities, capacity-building efforts, and data use and review meetings.

to ensure that nutrition is prioritized as part of integrated MNCH services, quality improvement activities, data use, trainings, and supportive supervision

Strengthen the capacity at district and health facility levels for operational planning and implementation of all MNCAH and Nutrition priorities including immunization activities

Identify and document program successes, best practices, challenges and lessons learnt from project implementation quarterly.
Management
-
Contribute to the analysis, synthesis, and reporting of program outputs and results in close collaboration with the MEAL team and ensure incorporation of lessons-learned into ongoing implementation.

Submit routine reports in line with project’s reporting requirements.

Prepare presentations for monthly donor and project update meetings, District Integrated Meetings, and other relevant technical meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
-
Diploma in midwifery with a minimum of five years of experience in successful implementation and management of maternal, newborn child and adolescent health or nutrition programs in the public or NGO sector.

Experience in use of innovative approaches for training and or building health provider knowledge skills and competences for MNCH and N services delivery
-
Training and experience as Trainer of Trainers, in MNCAH and Nutrition training packages
-
Experience in use of innovative approaches/differentiated service delivery approaches including community-based service delivery models to improve access to care for underserved populations
-
Training and experience in use of QI approaches to improve HF performance and quality of service delivery
-
Experience in use of health service delivery data for priority setting
Previous working relationships within donor funded programs and with key multilateral agencies, and bilateral donors

Demonstrated ability to work within a multi-faceted health development program in collaboration with MOH personnel at provincial, district and health facility levels, and local partners

Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks and tight deadlines

Ability to work independently and as a team leader/member with diverse team of professionals

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written and presentation)
