Lumwana Mining Company is seeking to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Mechanical Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) Engineer to join the versatile Process – Maintenance team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Planning and Reliability Coordinator, you will be responsible for ensuring that all mechanical systems and components meet the required quality, specifications and standards of operation. This role is critical in maintaining a high asset reliability and ensuring compliance with Barrick standards and regulations.

Duties and responsibility for this position will include but not limited to the following;

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance and quality control procedures for mechanical systems in the copper processing plant.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of mechanical equipment and processes to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Review and approve mechanical design specifications, drawings, and documentation to ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Perform root cause analysis for any quality issues and develop strategies to prevent recurrence.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of quality control activities, including inspection reports, non-conformance reports, and corrective action plans.
  • Train and mentor staff on quality assurance practices and procedures.
  • Stay updated on industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to mechanical engineering and quality control.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide input on quality-related matters.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Must have Grade 12 full School Certificate
  • Minimum Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least three (3) years practical experience in a maintenance environment, preferably in mining/minerals processing.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and relevant industry standards
  • Proficient in using quality control tools and techniques, such as statistical process control (SPC), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and root cause analysis
  • Knowledge of Maintenance and Reliability Systems (ERP or CMMS, preferable experience with SAP)
  • Professional certification in quality control or assurance (e.g., CQE, CQA) will be an added advantage.
