Role Description
Our doctors are responsible for the delivery of a high standard of medical care together with excellent customer service at the health facility. Medical doctors rotate between outpatient, emergency, inpatient and occupational health services. They work closely with other multidisciplinary clinicians to provide comprehensive health care services for patients and their families. Our doctors carry out their duties consistently, ethically and in line with international standards and evidence based medical practices.
Educational Requirements

Must have completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery or equivalent.

Must be registered and licenced with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ). ACLS and ITLS training is an advantage but not a requirement.
Key Role Accountabilities
-
Ensure that the hospital/clinic facilities, medical equipment and patient services are maintained to an operational standard of professional excellence.

Comply with all MBHS standards for delivering high quality clinical care and where relevant, identify and/or design any medical practice standards or procedures that are required.

Attend regular clinic and medical clinician meetings to report on and discuss issues relating to improvements to hospital / clinic services.

Ensure that proper handover procedures are followed between doctors and at shift change to promote continuity of patient care.

Be available for duty as rostered for normal shifts, on call shifts (defined as a standby period out of normal clinic hours), weekends and in case of emergencies.
Key Responsibilities
Medical Services
-
Maintain and promote international standards of good medical practice within the hospital/clinic in collaboration with other medical staff / chief medical officer/clinic or hospital manager/ medical director.

Ensure that MBHS protocols and procedures and local regulations are adhered to at all times.

Maintain individual clinical knowledge at an international standard through continuous education, training and learning.

Ensure that patient care documentation is accurate, legible and content appropriate. Every interaction with patients/clients, service and third party providers is documented accurately.

Ensure that patients are notified of their test results within 12 hours of receiving results.
-
Ensure that universal infection control precautions are maintained throughout the hospital/clinic.

Must be available for after-hours or on-call work when rostered to do so and in any emergency situation out of the rostered period.

Ensure compliance for other duties and responsibilities as may be required from the chief medical officer and/or hospital/clinic manager from time to time.

Assist with appropriate medical evacuation or referral services. This will include ensuring all paperwork is complete like medical reports, organising of referrals, monitoring the patient’s condition, advising on appropriate means of evacuation, and monitoring the progress of the referral or evacuation. Be available to escort patients if required during a medical evacuation
Customer Care
-
Foster a culture of customer service satisfaction amongst MBHS staff and patients.

Demonstrate good customer service by listening to patient’s concerns and providing proper support and care. Be polite and respectful in all patient or staff interactions.

Report to the Clinic Manager/ Chief Medical Officer where you see any evidence of poor customer service from other MBHS staff towards patients or other staff (i.e. bullying).

In the interest of customer service, patients requesting an after-hours consultation should be serviced as per their wishes (within reason).
Financial,Administration Reporting
-
Ensure that all services are correctly itemised on the billing sheets.
-
Ensure that patient details are recorded correctly on the billing sheet, the patient’s file and all documentation.
-
Ensure that reports relating to hospital/clinic usage, disease profiles, malaria stats and potential issues are presented to the chief medical officer on a monthly basis or as required.

Ensure that all patient referrals, transfers or evacuations are reported to senior management (i.e. CMO or Clinic Manager or Medical Director). Complete a medical escort equipment form.

Work with members of the management team to develop a business service plan where required. As directed by the medical director, assist with development and promotion of medical programmes or schemes for MBHS clients.

Report to the chief medical officer and the hospital/clinic manager on any faulty medical equipment, including the need to upgrade or replace.
Continued Professional Development (CPD)

Assist with the development and provision of training courses and drills on request from the chief medical officer and/or hospital/clinic manager.

Deliver educational training courses on request by the Chief Medical Officer

Assist the Chief Medical Officer in planning and executing a training program for the hospital
Professional
-
Ensure that all on-going clinical and professional registration and education is managed, documented and maintained. All documentation is to be submitted to MBHS HR manager on an annual basis or when registration is renewed.

Ensure all medical information and information about the client’s activities is kept in strict confidence at all times.

Respect and maintain patient dignity and integrity at all times. Continually strive to deliver a high standard of quality care to all patients.

Efficiently manage patient consultation appointments so that daily patient consultation targets are continually met and patients are seen in a timely fashion.
General
-
Maintain a positive relationship with other doctors and clinical staff working for MBHS.

Actively participate in appropriate social/professional activities that will enhance MBHS image in the community.

Always adhere to the MBHS uniform policy and code of conduct.

Must be competent in effective communication skills.

Must be honest, trustworthy and act with integrity at all times.

• No consumption of alcohol is allowed whilst on duty. Intake of alcohol while off duty is allowed but inebriation is forbidden in public.
Quality Management
-
Upon request, undertake a clinic/ patient health risk assessments, site surveys etc. and provide a risk analysis report where relevant.

Provide support to the Occupational Health department and MBHS OH patients.

Assess and advise on the quality of medical services provided by local service providers for laboratory, x-ray and other clinical support or specialist services.

Assume responsibility for the plan of action (POA) following an audit report to ensure that there is compliance with the MBHS standards.

Support the CMO in conducting clinical audits and submit results to the Medical Director and Quality Department as instructed.
