PRODUCTION ENGINEER
Purpose of the Job
Reporting to the Divisional Manager, the job holder will coordinate and control water treatment activities at WTP(s) to ensure availability of pumping equipment, good chemicals stock levels, uninterrupted pumping, treatment and production of good quality water.
Main accountabilities
-
Ensures that all pumping equipment and ancillaries are working efficiently and that any deviation from normality is promptly reported.

Supervises analysis of raw and treated water at various stages in the treatment processes.
-
Enforces adherence to the Water Safety Plan for the WTPs.
-
Ensures stable chemical stock levels are maintained at the WTPs
-
Ensures that physical checks are regularly carried out on the operations of the WTPs
-
Ensures that the Water permit for the WTPs is obtained in good time from WARMA
-
Ensures good housekeeping at the WTPs
-
Responsible for control of energy consumption at the WTP/s
-
Coordinates performance management system (PMS) for the subordinates
-
Supervise, coach and train subordinates
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
-
Grade 12 Certificate with Five (5) O Levels
-
Degree in Civil, Water or Chemical Engineering
-
Minimum 5 years post qualification experience
-
Valid Driver’s License with minimum of 2 years’ experience (Ability to Drive Manual Vehicle) will be an added advantage
SANITATION SUPERVISOR
Purpose of the Job
To implement planned maintenance programmes of sewer reticulation systems and supervise maintenance crews engaged in the repair and maintenance of sewage collection networks, treatment and maintenance of sewage ponds.
Main accountabilities
-
Coordinate and supervise sanitation teams to help in maintenance and management of sanitation infrastructure operations in urban and rural parts.
-
Supervise Sewage reticulation system repairs by preparing and scheduling daily programmes according to complaints received and undertake monthly and quarterly work programmes as planned.

Ensure sanitation proper storage and maintenance of sanitation equipment and tools
-
Coordinate private operators with regards to dumping of faecal sludge and septage at the treatment facilities and ensure proper record keeping.

Participates in the daily planning, organization and operation of the functional work groups and provides input to private property claims related to sewer connection blockages.
-
Ensures good housekeeping at the sewage treatment plants and Sewage pump stations.
-
Ensure adherence to sanitation complaint resolution and Sewer line cleaning procedures
-
Conduct investigation on reoccurring sewer blockages complaints and report to the Assistant engineer Sanitation for drawing corrective action plan.
-
Ensures replacement of collapsed sewer lines in the network in all sanitation hotspots.
-
Ensure all reported sewer blockages are resolved within SLG
-
Ensure supervision and adherence to Sewer line cleaning programs and desludging Schedules Pigging.

Ensure strict adherence to standard operating procedures of working on sewer

Ensure sanitation service extension by making new sewer connections in newly
-
Ensure that proper records of works, materials, staff and equipment as well as faults and repairs are kept updated to aid management in decision making

Ensures enforcement of good performance and discipline of staff

Monitors, reviews and agrees on performance of subordinates to ensure that they meet the agreed targets

ARTISAN INSTRUMENTATION
Purpose of the Job
To install, service and repair control instrumentation equipment, metering devices and associated components, required to support equipment and machinery for water and sewerage operations
Main accountabilities
-
Responsible for checking and maintaining water and/or sewer system instrumentation:
-
Carrying out checking operations
-
Data reliability and consistency analysis
-
Updating follow-up charts
-
Carrying out preventive and remedial maintenance on water and/or sewer system instrumentation equipment in pumping houses and control rooms:
-
Troubleshoot all malfunctioning instrumentation equipment in pumping stations and distribution networks
-
Carrying out calibrations of all measuring instruments i.e. flow meters, pressure gauges etc. and/or subcontracting troubleshooting
-
Carrying out and/or subcontracting troubleshooting
-
Complying with safety rules
-
Using and updating the CMMS
-
Carrying out routine preventive maintenance on all the PLCs and SCADA systems in all water treatment plants/ Sewage plants in pumping houses and control rooms:
-
Cleaning dusts on the instrumentation components and panels
-
Changing batteries to maintain normal operations of the system
-
Carrying out loop tests on the system for proper transfer of signals
-
Completes work dockets and other reports detailing work done and other details as required

Undertakes any related assignment given by supervisor
Knowledge and Skill Requirements

Diploma in Electronics or Craft Certificate in Instrumentation

PLANT OPERATOR
Purpose of the Job
To undertake operational tasks in water treatment plant under the guidance of the Assistant Water Treatment Plant – Engineer in order to treat and supply good quality water to customers in line with the Service Level Agreement and Guarantees in place.
Main accountabilities
-
Operates and monitors the smooth running of a WTP/s in accordance with the instructions issued to him/her by the Assistant Water Treatment Plant – Engineer.
-
Supervises the shift plant attendants to ensure assigned tasks are carried out as required.
-
Ensures the cleaning and the disinfection of the sedimentation tank, clear well and other tanks according to the programme, including backwashing of Filters.
-
Acquaints himself/herself with the status of the plant at beginning of shift, discusses with outgoing operators/Attendant so as to know plant status at beginning of shift
-
Pumps water to reservoirs to facilitate distribution to customers
-
Checks water samples hourly for testing PH levels and other parameters for compliance with WHO and ZABS guidelines while other parameters are measured every 2 to 3 hours.

Prepares and dozes chemicals used in treating water at the assigned water treatment plant

Enforces good performance and discipline of staff

PLANT ATTENDANT/BOOSTER
Purpose of the Job
To undertake a variety of operational tasks such as; the operations of vital equipment, house-keeping and inspection of water lines for leaks in the assigned area of operation in order to ensure sustained operations at the booster station.
Main accountabilities
-
Pumps water to reservoir to facilitate distribution to customers
-
Ensures cleaning and the disinfection of the water reservoirs according to the programme for the station.
-
Sweeps, dusts, cleans the plant and surroundings to maintain cleanliness and orderliness
-
Acquaints himself with the status of the plant at beginning of shift by reading shift report and discussions with outgoing operator so as to know plant status at beginning of shift
-
Monitors the operations of the running pumps through physical examination of temperature, vibrations, and amperage and reports any abnormalities to superior
-
Checks the water lines for leaks through physical inspections and reporting of irregularities identified to supervisor for corrective action to be taken

Monitors the levels at the water reservoir to ensure adequate supply
Knowledge and Skill Requirements

ARTISAN BOILER MAKER
Job Purpose
To undertake Boiler-making and Metal fabrication activities in the assigned area of operation to facilitate repair, maintenance and rehabilitation activities at the Division to support water and sewerage service delivery.
Summary of Main Accountabilities
-
Examines equipment and pipes to assess condition prior to welding to determine extent of damage and material requirements
-
Identifies type of material to be welded to establish whether it is iron, steel, cast iron, copper etc in order to select and use the suitable welding method and materials such as welding electrodes most suited for the task at hand
-
Welds leaking pipes, burglar bars, exhaust pipes or any material amenable to welding interventions in order to support water and sewerage service delivery
-
Raises stores requisitions to draw welding materials to accomplish the task at hand.

Completes job cards to indicate work done, materials used and time spent
-
Supervises helpers assigned to him
-
Undertakes other tasks as assigned by the supervisor

Grade 12 Certificate ‘O’ Levels

Craft Certificate in Metal fabrication
