SUMMARY

The Nutrition Coordinator shall be responsible for supporting the sector manager in designing and developing Nutrition strategies as well as to provide technical guidance / support to field implementation with the goal to realize targeted Nutrition outcomes in selected communities consistent with industry standards and iDE approaches to development.

The coordinator shall foster nutrition sensitive initiatives and promote pathways that shall sustainably contribute to the development of human capital and building of resilient and productive livelihoods at the last mile. This shall include addressing the root causes of malnutrition (especially among children under five with emphasis on the first thousand days of life), building knowledge in dietary diversity and good feeding practices, and leveraging the market system to sustainably promote access to healthy and nutritious foods through physical and economic access. The coordinator shall also build collaborations internally and externally, catalyzing strategic partnerships with stakeholders including health facilities for synergies in delivering health outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities for a Nutrition Coordinator role:

Responsibility #1 Strategy development including application of innovation in addressing the root causes of malnutrition in communities.

• Collaborate with the sector manager to set SMART subsector annual objectives for realizing significant and transformative (outcome level) Nutrition results in line with set performance in the country strategy.
• Participate in co creating and developing nutrition-sensitive interventions that prioritizes targeted nutrition outcomes; leverage the market system and actors for sustainability, impact and scale and to deliver fair return on social investment.
• Strengthen systems and tactics to sustainably enhance knowledge and interest in nutrition, proper dietary diversity and recommended practices on consumption of nutritious foods among targeted communities as well as school learners.
• Strengthen and promote Infant and Young child feeding practices among women of childbearing age – before, during, and beyond pregnancy with special attention to the first thousand days of life
• Leverage entrepreneurship and markets to support development of food systems that unlock sustainable availability and access to sufficient targeted nutritious foods and inputs – using the pathways of Physical access through backyard production and Economic access through incomes and markets
• Enhance physical access to targeted Nutritious foods among targeted communities through knowledge of production, preservation, processing and storage; including promoting/ establishing of demonstration plots for diverse technologies and practices
• Contribute to the development of information, communication and training materials for Nutrition based on national nutritional guidelines and standards.

Responsibility #2: Planning and shaping the effective and efficient implementation of nutrition-related initiatives to achieve set subsector objectives.

• Collaborate with sector manager in overall planning for and structuring implementation of nutrition programs through appropriate tools such as workplans, budgets, Performance frameworks etc.
• Participate in designing and developing an adaptive system/ model for sustainably delivering and implementing nutrition initiatives and priority outputs to beneficiaries; ensuring cost effectiveness and responsiveness to context and learning
• Provide capacity building and technical guidance to the established delivery structure, ensuring expected performance in generating priority nutrition outputs and adherence to industry standards and practices.
• Develop strategic collaborations with WASH Coordinator to achieve synergies between WASH and Nutrition and collaborate with other sector coordinators for convergence and integrated program delivery.
• Provide support and guidance to district operations teams; to interpret and deliver sector plans, performance targets/ standards and budgets including development of concept notes and planned field visits to guide implementation.

Responsibility #3: Cultivate Strategic Partnerships within the Nutrition Sector

• Leverage resources and expertise from other organizations to strengthen nutrition-related initiatives and expand reach and impact
• Coordinate the develop strategic partnerships with relevant public actors to strengthen the project efficiency and quality assurance.
• Identify and promote market actors in the nutrition sector and foster formalized relationships for sustainability with a focus on outcome driven partnerships.
• Participate in workshops, conferences, and meetings to enhance technical understanding of the nutrition sector.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, such as clients, vendors, or partners
• Stay informed about current nutrition trends, research, and best practices.

Responsibility #4: Results monitoring, measurement and reporting for Nutrition-sensitive

• In collaboration with the Sector Manager, define Monitoring Indicators, establish measurable indicators to track progress. These could relate to dietary diversity; food production and behaviour change;
• Support Field teams in tracking and capturing performance and report on indicators related to nutrition outcomes on monthly basis to the sector manager.
• Identify areas for improvement within existing processes and suggest changes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve outcomes.
• Regularly assess program progress and effectiveness; solicit input from stakeholders, beneficiaries, and partners and use feedback to make informed decisions in consultation with the Sector Manager to improve program delivery.
• Document and share program achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
• Conduct planned monitoring and implement support visits to project sites

Primary Qualifications

Education and Experience

• A degree in Human Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Dietitian, Community Nutrition Agriculture, Social Work or equivalent.
• At least 5 years sector work experience working with rural SMEs.
  Knowledge of the stakeholders in the sector and related government policies and guidelines is necessary.
• Excellent understanding of project management and the market-systems development approach to will be added advantage

  Analytical skills;
• The ability to work independently, think innovatively and strategically and work effectively within a team
• Relevant private sector experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in relevant Office software such as word, excel, and PowerPoint.
• Exceptional networking and relationship-building abilities.
• A valid Driving license (including manual transmission).
