Job description:
Purpose
As a key member of the Process Plant team and reporting into the Process Plant Operations Manager, the Superintendent Dry plant is accountable for the management strategy and operational execution of the Crushing, Milling and Gravity Gold Section of the Process Plant to maximize production and minimize costs, while ensuring operational sustainability and adherence to safety expectations. The role has a focus on daily-monthly optimization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Zambia.

The role has equipment and operations personnel accountability from in-pit primary crusher, pebble crushing systems, the return pebble conveyors (including tramp removal) and the crushed ore stockpile feed conveying systems together with stockpile management, the crushed ore stockpile, the SAG and ball mills, cyclone clusters, mill ball charging systems, gold scalping screens, gravity concentrators and all associated equipment.

Maintain HSE standards and ensure strict compliance within the section.

Maintain a very high standard of Plant housekeeping.

Consistently deliver and exceed the main KPI’s of primary and pebble crusher plant performances, crushed ore stockpile quantity and particle size distribution milling throughput, mill utilization, gravity gold concentrate production and equipment utilization and float feed particle size.

Oversee the daily to monthly operations of the Crushing, Milling and Gravity Gold plant and personnel to ensure optimized plant availability, utilization and metallurgical performance.

Approve weekly and monthly maintenance plans.

Liaise with Mine planning to understand blend plans and effectively communicate Mine to Mill impacts up and down stream

Build strong relationships with Load and Haul teams and mine technical planning to ensure budgets are met.

Ensure both short- and long-term equipment plans and schedules (both maintenance and production tasks) are in place to deliver equipment capability.

Monitor, control and report on KPIs, plant activities and operational shortfalls.

Ensure the diagnosis of plant defects is conducted, focusing on identifying root cause, and then the implementation of both corrective and preventative measures.

Build ‘team’ environment with dry plant, engineering, metallurgical team, and operations personnel.

Facilitate daily interaction between mining, metallurgical team and process operations teams to make right decisions on plant performance, safety, operation and optimization.

Liaise with peer Technical Managers in both Mining and Processing and Shift Operations Section on ore quality and blending plans and performance.

Liaise with peer Superintendents (technical, production and maintenance) to deliver requirements of the section in the context of the whole Process Plant.

Support maintenance in the delivery of their tasks and equipment reliability.

Manage, track and report operational continuous improvement activities to deliver improved process performance.

Define, prioritize, obtain approval for and implement capital improvement projects.

Implement the Crushing, Milling and Gravity Gold Section structure, manning levels and resources to deliver the Comminution component of the operations plan.

Lead the Crushing, Milling and Gravity Gold teams, composed of expatriates and nationals, to consistently deliver and exceed expectations.

Maintain and manage staff development, succession plans, and training programs, particularly skills transfer and coaching to the national staff.

Contribute to the preparation the annual Crushing, Milling and Gravity Gold Operations Cost Budgets and provide quarterly Forecasts.

Control, report and reduce operational costs.

Perform any other duties as assigned by the Manager Process Plant.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL
Knowledge
-
A Tertiary Qualification in Extractive Metallurgy, Mineral Processing or related field is highly regarded
-
General understanding of load and haul, mine planning and blend plans is an advantage
-
10 years of direct experience in technical and/or operational roles of flotation circuits.
-
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Senior Supervisory or Management role.
-
Significant experience in a large, complex base metals processing plant(s).
-
Preferably experienced in the copper circuits.
-
Exposure to minerals processing plant design or metallurgical optimization.
-
Fluency in English is required.
