Job description:
As a key member of the Process Plant team and reporting into the Manager, Process Operations, the Superintendent Wet plant is accountable for the management, strategy and operational execution of the Flotation and Services Section of the Process Plant equipment to maximise production and minimise costs, while ensuring operational sustainability and adherence to safety expectations. The role has a focus on daily-monthly optimisation.
1. Compliance and Safety
-
Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Zambia.
-
Maintain HSE standards and ensure strict compliance within the section.
-
Maintain a very high standard of Plant housekeeping.
-
Lead the Flotation and Services teams to consistently deliver and exceed expectations in safety and performance.
-
Strong personal commitment to SHEC (Safety, Health, Environment, and Community) performance.
2. Operational Management
-
Oversee the daily to monthly operations of the flotation and service plant and personnel to ensure optimized plant availability, utilization, and metallurgical performance.
-
Approve weekly and monthly maintenance plans.
-
Monitor, control, and report on KPIs, plant activities, and operational shortfalls.
-
Implement the Flotation and Services Section structure, manning levels, and resources to deliver the Flotation component of the operations plan.
-
Control, report, and reduce operational costs.

Technical and Process Optimization
-
Consistently deliver and exceed the main KPI of plant recovery and concentrate quality with a particular focus on process stability of reagent makeup, dosing, and the different stages of flotation cell performances.

Ensure the diagnosis of plant defects, focusing on identifying root cause and implementing both corrective and preventative measures.
-
Manage, track, and report operational continuous improvement activities to deliver improved process performance.
-
Define, prioritize, obtain approval for, and implement capital improvement projects.
4. Collaboration and Team Building
-
Build a ‘team’ environment with milling, engineering, metallurgical team, and operations personnel.
-
Facilitate daily interaction between the metallurgical team and operations to make right decisions on plant performance and optimization.
-
Liaise with peer Superintendents (technical, production, and maintenance) to deliver requirements of the section in the context of the whole Process Plant.

Support maintenance in the delivery of their tasks and equipment reliability.

Staff Development
-
Maintain and manage staff development, succession plans, and training programs, particularly skills transfer and coaching to the national staff.

Lead and develop the Flotation and Services teams composed of expatriates and nationals.

Budgeting and Forecasting
-
Contribute to the quarterly and annual Operations Production Budget & Forecasts.
-
Prepare the annual Flotation and Services Operations Cost Budget and provide quarterly forecasts.

Knowledge
-
A Tertiary Qualification in Extractive Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, or a related field.
-
10 years of direct experience in technical and/or operational roles of flotation circuits.
-
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Senior Supervisory or Management role.
-
Significant experience in a large, complex base metals processing plant(s).
-
Preferably experienced in the copper circuits.
-
Exposure to minerals processing plant design or metallurgical optimization.
-
Fluency in English is required. A commitment to undertake language training to achieve competency is expected.
Skill
-
Excellent leadership, motivational, and interpersonal skills.
-
Excellent understanding and knowledge of technical production and maintenance strategies for large-scale continuous operating processing plants.
-
Excellent cognitive and analytical skills with understanding of complex metallurgical information, process improvement, and control strategies.
-
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to assemble data and provide clear and accurate operational performance reports in both an upward and downward direction.

Proven results in facilitating continuous improvement activity.

Proven success in planning and organizing.
