Job description:

Overall Job Purpose:

To assist the Dewatering section in the handling, construction and maintenance of all dewatering systems as well as ancillary services, with the focus on all Excavator activities that can aid the Dewatering team with achieving the set goals on a daily basis.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

• Conduct pre start and post inspection of an excavator.
• Ensuring that the house keeping of the machine is well maintained to a good standard.
• Report mechanical defects immediately.
• Ensure good operation practices.
• Earthworks on pump pad constructions, pump access road construction, sump berm wall construction, sump deepening as required, pipe trenching as required and assisting with some equipment lifting activities that is declared safe to lift by a rigger or supervisor or coordinator.
• Maintain water drainage as required by supervisor.
• Report all substandard/unsafe conditions to Supervisor.
• Follow applicable safety procedures.
• Ability to follow and execute work instructions in a safe and orderly manner.
• Carry out any other tasks as may be delegated upon you by the supervisor.

Job Specific Competencies :

• Good communication skills.
• Knowledge in operating a excavator or similar equipment.
• Must possess knowledge on how to do the pre- start on the machine.
• Must be able to identify defects.
• Must be conversant with controls/parts and their functions on a machine.
• Must possess knowledge about machine shut down and emergency procedures.
• Must be able to operate a two-way radio and be able to use of modular system .

Experience & Qualifications :

• At least 2 years’ experience in mining and heavy earthwork machinery operation.
• Knowledge on operating a excavator and its mechanical capabilities.
• Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
• Valid Driver’s license with at least 2 years driving experience.
