Job Purpose
The Q400 Captain will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Bombardier Q400 aircraft in accordance with Airlines’ standard operating procedures (SOPs), regulatory requirements, and company policies. The captain will ensure a high standard of safety, operational efficiency, and passenger service on all flights. Maintain familiarity with relevant regional and International air legislation and agreed aviation practices and procedures
Summary of Key Responsibilities:

Command and operate the Q400 aircraft safely and efficiently.

Ensure compliance with ZCAA and company regulations, including SOPs.

Maintain familiarity with such provisions of the company operations manuals
-
Lead by example with honesty, integrity and ensure effective communication among the crew and our guests
-
Take charge of the safety of all crew members, passengers and cargo on board, as soon as the commander arrives on board the aircraft, until the commander leaves the aircraft at the end of the flight.

Flexible and adaptable to respond to the changing demands of the operation and business

Completes flight planning, performance and weight and balance tasks for each assignment, as required.

Responsible for the operation and safety of the aircraft:
-
Take authority to disembark any person, or any part of the cargo, that may represent a potential hazard to the safety of the aircraft or its occupants.
-
Conduct pre-flight and post-flight inspections and briefings.
-
Monitor weather conditions, airspace restrictions, and operational notices to ensure safe flight planning.
-
Make timely and sound decisions during normal and emergency operations.
-
Ensure that all passengers are briefed on the location of emergency exits and the location and use of relevant safety and emergency equipment.

Ensure that all operational procedures and checklists are complied with in accordance with the operations manual.

Ensure that flight recorders: i. are not disabled or switched off during flight; and ii. in the event of an accident or an incident that is subject to mandatory reporting

Maintain clear and professional communication with Air Traffic Control, ground operations, and cabin crew.

Ensure accurate and timely completion of flight documentation.

Uphold the highest standards of safety, security, and customer service
-
Take authority to give all commands and take any appropriate actions for the purpose of securing the safety of the aircraft and of persons and/or property carried.

Primary Areas of Accountability:
Qualifications and Experience
-
Experience operating in African or regional airspace
-
Proven leadership and crew resource management skills.
-
Valid Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) issued or validated by the Zambian Civil Aviation Authority (ZCAA).
-
Minimum 3,500 total flight hours.
-
Minimum 1,000 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) on multi-engine, multi-crew aircraft.
-
Valid Class 1 Medical Certificate.
-
ICAO Level 4 or higher.
-
Must have flown within the last 12 months on type or similar.
-
Must pass background checks and security clearance.
-
Previous Line Instructor/Examiner experience is an advantage.

Proven knowledge of ZCAA regulations
