Purpose of the Role
The Power, Lighting, and Earthing Superintendent leads and oversees all power distribution, lighting, and earthing system installations and commissioning activities for the Lumwana Expansion Project. This role ensures full compliance with South African (NBCEI), Zambian (EIZ), and international electrical standards (IEC), promoting safety, quality, and on-time delivery. The superintendent drives coordination across electrical teams, maintains rigorous quality and safety standards, and ensures all installations meet project specifications and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all site activities related to power distribution networks, lighting systems, and earthing installations.
Develop and implement detailed work plans, schedules, and resource allocations for the power, lighting, and earthing teams.
Ensure all electrical installations comply with SANS, NBCEI, EIZ, IEC, and client specifications.
Oversee testing, commissioning, and quality verification of power and lighting systems, including earthing resistance measurements and system integrity tests.
Conduct safety briefings, toolbox talks, and enforce strict adherence to site health and safety policies and permit-to-work systems.
Collaborate closely with design engineers, electrical supervisors, and other site disciplines to resolve technical issues and ensure seamless integration.
Monitor and control project resources, tools, and materials to optimize efficiency and prevent downtime.
Review and approve daily progress reports, inspection checklists, and commissioning documentation.
Identify, report, and manage non-conformances or defects, driving timely corrective actions and continuous improvement.
Support site management with project reporting, risk assessments, and compliance audits.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Certification:
South African Red Seal Trade Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Section 13 or 26D), fully compliant with NBCEI and SACPCMP standards.
Registered or eligible for registration with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
Valid passport and eligibility for Zambian Class A Work Permit and Temporary Employment Permit (TEP).
Experience:
Minimum 7 years of electrical experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role on heavy industrial, mining, or large infrastructure projects.
Proven expertise in power distribution, lighting installations, and earthing systems compliant with South African and international standards.
Strong working knowledge of SANS 10142-1, IEC standards, and Zambian statutory requirements.
Experience with commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting electrical installations.
Skills & Competencies
Proven leadership and team management skills within multi-disciplinary site environments.
In-depth technical knowledge of electrical power, lighting, and earthing systems.
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and site reporting systems.
Dedicated to maintaining safety, quality, and compliance at all times.
Working Conditions
Site-based role at a remote mining project site.
Exposure to industrial environments; strict adherence to PPE and safety regulations is mandatory.
May involve extended working hours and physically demanding work conditions.
