Yalelo Ltd seeks to hire an experienced and qualified candidate to fill the role of Support Services Team Lead dedicated to planning, coordinating and supervising activities necessary for the smooth running of the fish processing plant at our production site in Siavonga. The Support Services Team Lead reports to the Processing Manager and works hand in hand with with other Team Leads at the processing plant.This position is based at our production site in Siavonga.
The Right Fit candidate will be responsible for the following:
1. Planning and Resource Management
Proactively assess and plan for equipment and consumable needs to enable cost-effective procurement, including sourcing from abroad where feasible.
Plan quantities, timing, and logistics for all critical materials (e.g., ice, pallets, crates, trucks) for seamless coordination of harvest, processing, and dispatch to and from Siavonga.
Monitor and manage team and process efficiency to ensure optimal performance.
Ensure adequate care and preventive maintenance of all critical equipment to avoid processing slowdowns or stoppages.
Apply critical thinking and adapt processes to improve output and efficiency.
Trial new ideas and innovate to expand processing capabilities.
2. Operations Oversight and Execution
Provide timely and accurate reporting on output, shortfalls, efficiency, and overall operations on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
Ensure night shift teams adequately prepare the facility for the following day’s operations.
Ensure effective operation and output from ice machines, including delivery and slurry preparation to minimize melt and ensure rapid cooling.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of equipment and facilities on a structured schedule.
Ensure hygiene standards are upheld to maximise product quality.
Manage the coordination and control of drivers and machine operators through dotted-line reporting.
3. Team and Manpower Management
Manage fatigue, schedules, and manpower issues effectively to ensure targets are met without compromising productivity.
Instil pride in work, manage morale, and motivate teams through active, hands-on leadership.
Provide leadership support across sections where needed, especially during staff turnover, leave, or absence.
Cover leadership roles when requested or assigned.
Demonstrate high stamina and availability to assist across all operational areas when required.
4. SOPs, Compliance, and Standards
Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are up-to-date, comprehensive, and reviewed every six months or when processes change.
Enforce consistent adherence to SOPs across all teams.
Ensure job descriptions for all direct reports are current, clearly understood, and effectively followed.
5. Team Leadership and Communication
Lead daily morning supervisor meetings to address challenges, align priorities, and drive improvement.
Ensure supervisors submit accurate, high-quality reports which are verified and archived appropriately.
Foster a collaborative environment with open coordination among department leaders to drive integration across functions.
Communicate effectively with all relevant stakeholders to ensure seamless planning and execution.
Identify potential bottlenecks early, communicate proactively, and implement mitigation strategies.
Coordinate closely with internal and external stakeholders to align planning and logistics.
6. Performance and Discipline Management
Maintain a firm but fair approach to disciplinary matters, ensuring consistent accountability for underperformance.
Ensure performance gaps are addressed and areas of focus are clearly communicated to team leaders.
Continuously drive the team toward higher productivity and a more efficient logistics function.
Qualifications & Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Food Processing, Production Operations, Process Engineering, or a related field
Minimum of 3 years’ progressive experience in supporting production
operations through a planning or coordination role
Proven ability to manage multiple work streams effectively
Experience in the FMCG industry, managing large teams; knowledge of HACCP is an added advantage
