Qualifications
Degree in related field
3 years + of progressive experience in a logistics/planning/coordination role
Experience in food logistics is an added advantage
Experience in FMCG industry, leadership and HACCP is an added advantage
Job role
Ensure equipment and consumable needs are well understood and planned for well in advance to allow for lowest cost procurement (bringing from abroad where possible)
Firm, fair approach to disciplinary issues, ensuring that under delivery is not tolerated
Report on output, shortfalls, efficiency and operations on a daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly basis adequately and as per requirement for an effective system and department
Analysis of trends and data collected done, and used to improve productivity, quality and efficiency of the system constantly
Manage fatigue, schedules and manpower issues effectively and efficiently, ensuring the harvest target is not compromised
Effective planning of quantities, time and logistics of materials required (ice, pallets, crates, trucks etc.), harvest dispatch, processing receiving and dispatch, commercial receiving and dispatch to Siavonga
Superb communication, and scheduling effectively with stakeholders related to the planning of the functions mentioned above
Coordinates effectively and smoothly both internally within the department and externally with other departments and stakeholders to ensure an effective, realistic planning function for the processing department
Think, plan and communicate ahead for bottlenecks or holdups being experienced, mitigating the effects and allowing operations to cope and or make alternative arrangements
Constantly push and drive the team for higher productivity and a smoother logistics function
Ensure the JD’s of the direct reports are up to date, clear, understood and followed effectively
Ensure SOP’s are up to date, fully encompassing and revised every 6 months or when there is a change in process
Ensure all SOP’s are adhered to by the team at all times
Work hand in hand with other leadership in the department, encouraging teamwork and integration between sections
Good coordination and communication with leaders to ensure clear areas of focus are understood, and gaps are covered
Hold brief daily morning supervisor meetings addressing concerns and driving improvement
Ensure adequate level and quality of reports is received from supervisors, cross checked and appropriately stored
Ensure control, and coordination of drivers and machine operators is taken through dotted line reporting to fulfil the logistics needs of the department
Ensure cleanliness of all equipment and the facility is done to an adequate standard and on a routine schedule
Ensure hygiene standards are upheld, and product quality is maximized
Ensue ice production, delivery and slurry preparation are done effectively in an organized manner, minimizing melt and reducing temperatures of fish to required levels within required timeline
Ensuring the night team effectively prepares, sets up and arranges the facility ready for daytime operations to start at the beginning of the day shift
Monitors and ensures good delivery from ice machines
High level of stamina to assist in all sections where required to get involved and fill gaps
Ensures interfaces and relationships with other departments or teams are well managed and professional, assisting where needed to reach the common goal
Cover for other leadership positions were requested or assigned in cases of staff turnover, leave or absence
Critically think out scenarios and adapt processes to achieve higher efficiency and output
Trial improvements and be innovative in expansion of the processing output
Ensure efficiency of teams and processes is monitored and well managed
Ensure adequate care is taken and maintenance is performed on all critical equipment within the processing plant to prevent slow down or stoppage in processing
Instill as sense of pride in the work, manage staff morale, and motivate the teams through hands on leadership
