Since the year 2000 Family Legacy has been working in various communities throughout Lusaka, Zambia to transform the lives and futures of vulnerable and orphaned children. Family Legacy employs 700 staff, serves over 11,000 orphaned and vulnerable children in Lusaka, and runs 3 key programs: a) Camp Life; b) Tree of Life Children’s Village; and c) 18 Legacy Academy schools.
The organization seeks to recruit a suitably qualified, experienced, and competent individual who is committed to the organization’s mission, vision, and values, to be based in Lusaka, for the following position:
Program Manager of Spiritual Development
Job Summary
The Program Manager for Spiritual Development oversees all Spiritual Development strategies and programming for Family Legacy’s staff, students, and parents/guardians across 18 Legacy Academy schools, the Tree of Life Children’s Village, the Excel Beyond program, and the FLMZ head office. The Program Manager leads and directly manages all Spiritual Development department staff. The Program Manager provides vision, direction, strategic planning, and close oversight of all Spiritual Development programming across the ministry. The Program Manager also develops and implements new, innovative programming to enhance worship, discipleship, personal development, and spiritual growth of Family Legacy’s students, staff, and parents/guardians.
Dimensions of the Role

Develops a clear vision, purpose, and mission for Spiritual Development across the ministry

Develops, implements, and oversees all Spiritual Development content, curriculum, and programming across the ministry

Reports to the Integrated Programs Director

Monitors and provides direct oversight of the Spiritual Development department staff across the ministry
-
Directly manages, conducts regular evaluations of, and provides timely feedback to Spiritual Development direct reports
-
Designs and implements innovative programming and strategies that foster spiritual formation and growth for all FLMZ students, staff, and parents/guardians
-
Ensures that FLMZ’s Statement of Faith informs and supports the delivery of all ministry programming and external engagement
-
Closely collaborates with the Academics leadership team and department to provide close oversight of Christian Education Teachers at all Legacy Academy campuses
-
Makes recommendations to FLMZ’s Country Director, Integrated Programs Director, the Programs Team, the FLMZ Executive Team, as well as other stakeholders to identify strategic growth areas for the Spiritual Development department to maximize impact on the children and communities Family Legacy serves

Closely collaborates with the MER department to develop and implement a Monitoring, Evaluation and Research (MER) framework and tools for the Spiritual Development program in line FLMZ’s strategic plan.
Typical Responsibilities – Key End Results of Position
Spiritual Formation
-
Develops, implements, and closely monitors all Spiritual Development initiatives throughout the ministry

Provides close monitoring and oversight of the implementation of the Bible curriculum at all Legacy Academy schools
-
Develops and implements Bible studies in all Legacy Academy schools to provide supplemental Bible training for students and guardians
-
Facilitates the Literacy Evangelism program for FLMZ parents/guardians
-
Creates and coordinates programming for spiritual outreaches for students across FL’s sponsorship programs
-
Coordinates and leads weekly Staff Devotions at the Head Office, including content development and appointing/training others to lead
-
Coordinates and oversees weekly staff devotions at all FLMZ campus locations
-
Plans and organizes spiritual retreats and conferences for all FLMZ students and staff, including scheduling internal & external speakers
-
Creates resources and communication that influences and deepens FLMZ staff’s understanding of the ministry’s Christian identity and how it informs our approach to work and delivery of holistic care
-
Facilitates extracurricular activities such as Awanas, Bible Bee, Scripture Union clubs, etc in all Legacy Academy schools for students
-
Creates and implements methods of assessing and tracking the spiritual growth of our staff and students
-
Oversees the planning, preparation, and implementation of Baptismal services and Communion at Tree of Life church
-
Coordinate and monitor the implementation of the Religious Education (RE) curriculum as designated by the Ministry of Education
Spiritual Development Content Creation
-
Develops and implements Biblical devotional content for daily Morning Meetings at all Legacy Academy schools
-
Writes/chooses age-appropriate curriculum for children at the Tree of Life church
-
Closely collaborates with Family Legacy’s Spiritual Advisor and other external stakeholders to refine and implement Bible class curriculum
-
Writes weekly devotions to encourage and challenge FLMZ staff in their spiritual walks
-
Advocates for Biblical perspectives to be included in all FLMZ policies and procedures
-
Writes spiritual content for Camp Life, which may include any or all of the following: Spiritual material that prepares Camp Life ambassadors for what they will experience during Camp Life, Personal devotions for Camp Life ambassadors and Camp Life orientation content
Pastoral Care
-
Provides Biblical advice and spiritual counseling for FLMZ staff

Facilitates and leads Bible Studies for FLMZ staff as opportunities arise
-
Attends weddings, funerals, and other opportunities for ministry to our FLMZ staff, students, and parents/guardians
Training and Coaching
-
Trains and coaches Academics staff how to use the Bible class curriculum and devotional content for Morning Meetings at all Legacy Academy schools
-
Develops and conducts theological/Bible training sessions and workshops for all FLMZ staff
-
Trains and coaches’ individuals who are part of the preaching rotation for Tree of Life church in Bible study methods, developmentally-appropriate preaching techniques, and implementation of the chosen curriculum
-
Trains and coaches Spiritual Development department leadership (DPMs and Coordinators) in managing teams, Biblical leadership, personal spiritual growth, Bible study methods, etc. to help them effectively lead their teams

Trains and coaches the Preaching Team for Camp Life
Staff Support
-
Oversees, manages, and coaches Spiritual Development department staff
-
Listens to staff concerns and needs and provides timely feedback to Integrated Programs Director
-
Initiates mediation in conflict management among staff
-
Participate in all FLMZ staff interviews to assist with spiritual vetting of potential candidates.
-
Communicates spiritual “wins” to our staff, sponsors, and other key stakeholders on a consistent basis
-
Ensures FLMZ staff live out the Christian faith in all they do, as reflected in strategy, ministry and organizational practices
-
Supports Spiritual Development Coordinators in developing assessments and monitoring indicators and tools that ensure Spiritual Development alignment and impact
Strategic Partnerships
-
Facilitates strong communication channels between Spiritual Development external strategic partners and FLMZ
-
Organizes external organizations, speakers, and conferences to equip our staff and students
-
Seeks out new Spiritual Development-related strategic partnerships that would benefit the ministry and cultivates relationships with them
-
Develops partnerships with local churches in the communities we serve in Lusaka, with a vision to connect FLMZ students, parents/guardians, and staff into those churches
-
Coordinates and oversees local churches who meet on Legacy Academy school campuses
Administrative Duties
-
Develops and closely monitors the Spiritual Development department’s annual budget and expenditures
-
Regularly monitors and reports on the progress of Spiritual Development programming against the Family Legacy Strategic Plan’s defined indicators and targets
-
Facilitates the provision of timely program reports to the Integrated Programs Director. Provide other information to other staff and stakeholders in a timely manner when requested
-
Attends regularly scheduled meetings with supervisor and other assigned team meetings
-
Creates and revises job descriptions, new organizational structure, and procedures for the Spiritual Development department as it grows
-
Directly oversees the hiring process of all Spiritual Development staff and Camp Life Interns
-
Tracks attendance/leave days of Spiritual Development department staff
-
Interprets the policies and goals of the organization for subordinates and ensure proper adherence
-
Delegates effectively to subordinates on all administrative, logistical, and other overall programmatic assignments
-
Oversees the procurement and distribution of needed resources for the Spiritual Development department
-
Evaluates and provides appropriate feedback on the performance of Spiritual Development department staff
-
Conducts evaluations of programs under Spiritual Development and makes recommendations for possible improvements
-
Provides Integrated Programs Director with strategic input regarding Spiritual Development department’s budget, ministry growth, staffing and personnel development and program effectiveness
Other Duties

Communication with Stakeholders: Provides timely, accurate and valuable information regarding the Spiritual Development department to the rest of the Family Legacy team and sponsors, both in Zambia as well as in the USA

Risk Management: Proactively monitors the components of the Spiritual Development department to ensure key risks are identified and mitigated in a timely manner

Child Protection: Provides close oversight, in cooperation with the FLMZ Child Safeguarding department, to ensure the full compliance and coherence of Family Legacy’s Child Safeguarding Policy to safeguard and protect children from all forms of harm and abuse

Academic and Professional Requirements:
-
Grade 12 Certificate
-
Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Theology or other Spiritual Development-related field
-
At least 5 years work experience in a similar position
-
Fluency in English- both spoken and written
-
Competency in computer skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.)
-
Valid Zambia Driver’s License
-
Documented program management experience
