About AHDI
Archie Hinchcliffe Disability Intervention (AHDI) is a local non-governmental organization with a mission to empower children with cerebral palsy and others with allied conditions to reach their full potential by providing inclusive and quality education, quality healthcare, and support services that promote their holistic development and well-being. The Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) matrix guides implementation of all activities hence all affairs surrounding a child with a disability are taken into context.
About the Project
‘Introducing sustainable farming to promote climate resilience among smallholder farmers,’ is a two-year project to be supported by International Climate Initiative (IKI), a department under GIZ. This is in an effort to compliment what the Ministry of Agriculture is already implementing in Kafue District to ensure adaptability to climate change. The effects of climate change have not spared anyone but some populations are harder hit due to their already vulnerable circumstances like disability, gender and age. The target areas are Chifwema and Malundu Wards where AHDI already provides home-based education.
Purpose of the Job/responsibilities
AHDI seeks an honest, vibrant and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Project Officer. She or He will support the implementation of the Project by conducting the planned activities, engaging various stakeholders, and ensuring that project objectives are met effectively and efficiently. Their responsibilities and deliverables will be to:

Mobilize farmers, who will include women (including those who have children with disabilities),persons with disabilities and young people.

Provide technical support in organic farming.

Optimize adoption of improved agriculture practices that do not harm the environment.

Analyze climate vulnerabilities and develop localized adaption strategies.

Ensure the demonstration plots are well managed.

Liaise and network with relevant government departments and partner organizations.

Collaborate with local and civic leaders and build fruitful and long lasting relationships.

Prepare on a regular basis the project plan, monitoring and reporting.

Ensure that project implementation plans are executed according to the project plan.

Establish and maintain excellent communication between the project and the authorities in the districts.

Conduct trainings and capacity building sessions for various stakeholders

Collect and document data on project activities, beneficiaries and outcomes.

Promote disability inclusion
-
Work with finance teams to track project expenditures and ensure financial accountability.

Support procurement and logistics planning for project activities.

Prepare and submit periodic project reports to the supervisor.
Academic Qualifications
-
Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agribusiness, Climate-Smart Agriculture, or related field.
Training in project planning/management is an advantage.
Other essential requirements:

Minimum 3 years’ experience in agriculture, climate adaptation, and community development.

Experience in working with multiple stakeholders

Experience of developing and managing effective relationships with government department and other stakeholders.

Ability to work with rural and vulnerable communities.
Demonstrated ability to:

Implement climate-resilient farming practices(e.g. water conservation, drought-tolerant crops).

Develop agribusiness/value-chain initiatives for smallholder farmers.
Desirable Attributes:

Excellent written and spoken communication skills(English), and ability to speak at least two local languages.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Able to work in a team environment.

Experience in managing institutional donor funds.

Ability to work independently and ready to work outside normal hours.

Good understanding of budgets and financial management.

Excellent computer knowledge and skills.
