The University of Lusaka is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Public Relations and Alumni Officer (1).

Public Relations and Alumni Officer (1)

Purpose

The Public Relations and Alumni Officer is responsible for developing and maintaining the relationship between the University and its internal and external stakeholders, including the Alumni. The incumbent is expected to have an excellent and in-depth understanding of the University’s unique ethos, mission and vision so as to ensure that the University, in line with the Strategic Plan, is communicating its goals and achievements to all concerned stakeholders.

Summary of Job Responsibilities

• Identify and exploit Public Relations (PR) opportunities that promote the University brand.
• Communicate to the University’s stakeholders all events that are taking place in order to keep them updated on the University’s position.
• Manage the relationship between the University and its Alumni as well as external stakeholders through newsletters, events, social media, web pages and other resources.
• Manage the University’s marketing image library including briefing journalists, photographers at key University events, ensuring that the image uses for marketing purposes adhere to the University policies.
• Serve as the lead writer for the University by working with Management to develop communication plans for both internal and external audiences; this includes writing letters, speeches, and presentations for the University on behalf of Management when assigned.
• Work closely with the Information Technology (IT) team in order to collate, prepare, and publish web content.
• Explore, keep abreast, and advise Management on innovative ways to increase optimization for a strong web and social media presence.
• Develop and advise Management on all content to be used in line with the University’s strategy, including videos, images and news.
• Support the Marketing team in the development and production of the University magazines, brochures, flyers and adverts.
• Manage the University Alumni website and develop an online community of past and current students by updating them regularly with engaging content, news, photographs and events.
• Design, plan and execute annual University Alumni events in order to enhance networking among the Alumni, both locally and globally.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of first Degree preferably in Public Relations, Mass Communication, Advertising and Marketing from a recognized University.
• Master’s degree in the relevant field (an added advantage).
• Member of either; Zambia Public Relations Association (ZAPRA), Zambia Institute of Marketing is a must.
• Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant working experience in Communications, Public Relations or Marketing.

Key Qualities and Skills:

• Excellent public speaking, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Sound organizational/ time management skills with an ability to manage and prioritize tasks concurrently as well as high level of attention to detail.
• Experience with publishing newsletters, organizing and managing events.
• Exceptional writing, proof reading and editing skills including the ability to format content for various stakeholders.
• Must have experience in planning and delivering social media communications platforms.
• Must have excellent IT skills, that is, conversant with the use of social media, Microsoft office, Internet etc.
• Ability to demonstrate creativity and innovativeness in deliverables.
