CAREER OPPORTUNITY – QUANTITY SURVEYOR

Job Purpose

The Responsibilities of this role will include but not limited to the following:

  • Support the preparation of Bills of Quantities, scope documents, and pricing schedules.
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing contractor reports, payment summaries, and commercial logs.
  • Evaluate and verify interim payment certificates, variation orders, and claims in line with contract terms.
  • Maintain accurate records of contracts, correspondence, and approvals.
  • Prepare, manage, and track detailed project cost estimates, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Provide input into cost plans, value engineering, and cost-benefit analysis for major scopes.
  • Manage cost reporting and variance analysis, working closely with project controls.
  • Develop and maintain cost control systems and tools for real-time visibility.
  • Track committed costs, actuals, and changes against budgets.
  • Identify, assess, and manage commercial risks and potential scope changes.
  • Manage variations, claims, and dispute resolution in collaboration with the project controls and legal teams.
  • Maintain a robust change register with full traceability.
  • Interface with project managers, engineering leads, finance, procurement, and contractors.
  • Provide commercial input to project strategy, planning sessions, and phase-gate reviews.

To be considered for this position, the candidate should meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent.
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Building Science or Mining or Commercial Management and or Project Studies.
  • Professional membership (e.g., PrQS, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ relevant experience.
  • Proven experience working on capital projects in Africa or similarly challenging environments is advantageous.
  • Experience with FIDIC, NEC, and bespoke contract forms.
  • High level of commercial acumen, analytical ability, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities across multiple packages.

The successful candidate must be result oriented and have the ability to work with own initiative, ability to understand scope of work, paying particular attention to Company policies and corporate objectives.
