Job Description
Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) is a membership-based professional body whose main goal is to champion the practice of medicine for the benefit of society through research and ethical practice. In doing this, ZMA upholds the values and morals of society, the values of democracy, accountability, transparency and good governance. Members of ZMA are collectively determined to practice medicine in accordance with ethical standards.
The ZMA promotes strategic partnerships between the public and private sector, aimed at achieving Universal Healthcare (UHC), and access to quality health services in Zambia. Its membership includes medical doctors and dental surgeons at all levels of practice.
Purpose and Objectives of ZMA

Conduct programmes for continuous professional development of its members

Continuously engage the Government of Zambia and government agencies on issues relating to health policy, regulations and others

Improve member welfare through advocacy and stakeholder engagement

Actively participate in research and promote evidence-based decision making in healthcare

Promote health through community engagements, public health activities and patient-centred decision making
-
Shape public opinion on health matters through media engagements, townhall meetings and community education

Create an opportunity for ZMA members to network in various forums and events with a diverse range of stakeholders from the health sector.
The ZMA is looking for an experienced person to take charge of the strategic aspects of the Association. Reporting to the ZMA executive, the CEO will build on the foundation of the association, optimise operating and funding models, harness the power of networking, leverage relationships with the government and development partners, build corporate partnerships, and ultimately improve the health of all Zambians through a strong, growing, relevant and sustainable Association.
Key responsibilities
Strategy
-
Liaise with the ZMA executive in leading the development and execution of the strategic plan and ensure that programs and resources are aligned to the strategy.
Leadership
-
Develop a cohesive, motivated, and high-performing staff team
-
Assign key corporate responsibilities to each staff to improve overall management and ensure achievement of strategic and organizational goals

Chair management team meetings and set the agenda to ensure strategic objectives are established and met.

Ensure high performance of staff and continuously assess their progress. Drive membership inclusive participation for the Association.
Stakeholder Engagement
-
Represent and advocate for ZMA to partners and stakeholders, including multi-lateral organizations, donors and the governments
-
Develop and maintain strong relations with ZMA members, government, donors, and public and private sector partners.

Effectively manage the membership of ZMA
Business Development
-
Lead the execution of Association development and improvement plans and key ZMA initiatives.

Lead and oversee all activities of business development and program design and participate in decision making of new investments, proposal development, and partnership formation and budgeting.
Program
-
Oversee design, marketing, promotion, delivery, and quality of programs.

Lead in converting marketing ideas, concepts, and strategies into programmatic reality and spearhead strategic thinking through the development of actionable marketing plans

Responsible for overall achievement of program objectives and targets.

Coordinate and review donor reports, including financial and programmatic reports as required by donors and ZMA and share best practices and lessons learnt in relevant documentation.
Financial, risk and management
-
Participate in the development of annual budget, and prudently manage Association resources within the confines of the approved budget.

Co-Lead the development and overall management of program budgets while overseeing internal controls and accountability mechanisms.

Ensure sound award management and financial management, including programmatic budgeting, quarterly spending projections, monthly spending reviews, and monitoring of payments.

Expand, monitor, and identify opportunities for increased efficiencies and cost effectiveness and ensure best value for money while ensuring effective use and coordination of donor resources and the compliance of the financial systems and controls with relevant donor standards.
Compliance

Ensure program compliance to local laws, regulations, and audit requirements and risk management plans, including financial and other reporting requirements as dictated by respective stakeholders.
Human Resource Management

Effectively manage the human resources of the Association according to authorised personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations.
Community and Public Relations
-
Ensure the Association and its vision, mission and programs are consistently presented in strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders and the media.

Coordinate the development of communication strategy
Resource Mobilization
-
Oversee resource mobilisation planning and implementation, including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals and administrating fundraising records and documentation

Academic Qualifications
-
Minimum of MBChB, MBBS, BDS or equivalent and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Strategic Management, Healthcare Management, Public Health, Communications, Marketing or health related field.
Experience
-
Minimum of 8 years’ work experience in a similar position
-
Experience in business management, financial management, with familiarity with diverse business functions such as sales and marketing, finance, human resources, and supply chain.
-
Experience in public relations and communications.
-
Knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practice.
-
Extensive knowledge and experience working with development partners in health and a deep understanding of the health systems and service delivery context in Zambia

Experience in new business development, developing profitable strategies and vision implementation.
